I have a MEL-BNE sector left from a DONE I took last year.

If I were to reticket there are hefty reticketing fees of $75 service fee + $125USD ticket reissue. (ie $253 AUD)

As I have only used 14 sectors, was considering rebooking to do a status run and say fly MEL-SYD-CNS-BNE. WHen I last looked at this they recalculated taxes and it was going to cost me an extra $250 in taxes + the reissue fees.

However, using the RTW booking engine on QF taxes for the revised itinerary come to $644 (instead of $1026 originally). Would this mean if I reticketed to add the extra sectors I would actually get a refund of approx $130 AUD. Or does tax reticketing only work one way (ie they charge you more if required, but never get a refund)?? 180 SC's are better than 60 ....

Since you only have 1 sector remaining on the booking, only the taxes for that will be taken into account since the rest have been used

Whether they will refund the $30 for the remaining fuel fine, I doubt since it is added as a YQ and not as part of the taxes

You may get a $ difference for the un flown sector, but no show of getting a refund for flown sectors.

ADL-BNE 1007 miles so good for SC earning, being over 1000 miles. Alternative to CNS.

If your bought the DONE ex Aust you are limited to 2 stopvers. I did a MEL-PER-BNE-DRW-ADL at the end my LONE5 (started SYD-xx_x-ADL to finish). Stopover's were MEL (8 months) and DRW (7 days)

1000 miles is not one of the threshold levels any more. The thresholds are at 601 and 1201 miles for domestic flights

MEL-CNS-SYD-BNE would be a better earning if concerned mainly on SC earning than going via SYD to CNS. 200 vs 180. MEL-PER-ADL-BNE would also earn 200 but involves flying more.

That wasn't the answer they gave me when I tried this reticketing this last time. They recalculated the taxes on the the entire ticket, including all 13 flown sectors. At that time AUD had dropped from 0.8 (at ticketing) to 0.63 and with the GBP charges for departing LHR and USD fuel fines into/out of HKG, it added considerable to the fees. Replacing MEL-BNE then with MEL-BNE-CNS netted an extra $250 (not the extra $30 I had anticipated) in addition to the rebooking and service fees. But as the taxes have dropped I wouldn't be surprised that the rules have now changed

Not a problem. I did BNE-MEL (stopover for 6 nights)-world-MEL (stopover 6 months and counting). Still wanting to do MEL-BNE to finish the trip but via SYD and CNS for SC's. Thx for the tip re ADL-BNE, that would mean MEL-SYD-ADL-BNE would still net 160SCs, and no need to go all the way to CNS just for an extra 20.

I think Mr Noble may be speaking from experience as he did similar last week.
