We discovered the Donkey Republic Bikesharing App while in Denmark.
It came about because when we tried to hire a bike through a bike shop - as recommended by the Airbnb host - the bike shop wanted Passports as security.
They are orange bikes
3 speed
Adjustable seat height
App operated integrated bike lock (blue circle)
Hire by time, day or PAYGo
Each bike has an individual identifying name
You need internet access to operate the locks. We thought Bluetooth only but the App needs to record your location (and send it back to the server) each time it is locked/unlocked
The App shows all the locations of the bikes available for rent. They are basically ubiquitous. Hire a bike by clicking in a bike's name and finding that bike. Once hired your app can only operate the lock of the correct bike's name
Returning is orderly. You can't dump the bike anywhere. It tells you where the best location is - for us it was up the road another 90m.
Problem with a bike? Report the problem and switch bikes through the app. Mine was low air pressure on front tyre so I swopped to another after starting the rental.
Very easy.
Of course, depending on your plans a bus might be easier.
Available in several European countries and the UK. We saw them first in the UK.
