I friend is involved in organising this and I thought it might be of interest to some travellers here.

It's certainly an interesting idea. Just to expand on this, what may be nice is a solo diners website, one that you can register what city your going to be in, and what sort of price range are you in, and it links up solo travels who are in a similar price range and the same city on that night.

Whilst I've found most places are pretty good when it comes to the solo diner, it's still quite lonely, and there is only so much time you can spend looking at the trinkets on the walls, someone to talk to even if only limited number of shared interests, would make for a much more enjoyable evening.
