Hervey Bay to Sydney

$155 flight = 23900 points (lowest economy tier)
No business available for any day to purchase directly or with points, despite being E90 and 737? Hard to believe the next months are booked solid... unless Virgin have some all economy planes I haven't seen before.

=========

Brisbane to Adelaide
$169 = economy = 23900 points
$879 = business = 27100 points

Or $169 + 17500 in upgrade points = business

So it seems that buying a business reward seat directly is MILES cheaper than using points for economy.
Economy => Business upgrade points seem quite poor value too, although maybe you can get seats using that you couldn't buy directly?

Just checking this is right, I've read that points are best spent on upgrades but this seems ridiculously skewed.
Also checking if anyone knows about HVB->SYD as seems weird no business on that. Though it's a cough of a route at 601 miles, have to pay the 2nd tier rate for a short flight.

think the HVB flights are sold as Y only from memory (for the rest my VA points knowledge is zilch so can't help there)

Unless my memory is wrong there are business class seats on the planes so not being able to buy business class is weird. Unless it legitimately is booked solid for months, seems unlikely, or maybe they've changed to all economy planes as has been a while since I've done that route.

WP get to preselect business class seats on economy fares.

Still economy service though.

Can't imagine many platinums in sleep old Hervey Bay!

Surprisingly HVB->ADL one way is actually 24,000 points with Qantas vs 40,000 points with Virgin. Both have 1 leg economy and 1 leg business (although Virgin doesn't say that vs Qantas that has a little tooltip). Can almost do a return flight for the cost of one way on Virgin which seems odd. I tried a number of dates in Feb->Apr to check consistency.

The more I learn the more questions I end up with!
