Double SC offers? oh,, I aint got a 1 yet

Seeing all the posts about people getting double SC offers got me thinking. I certainly haven't received 1 even though I keep a firm eye on my spam folder waiting for it to appear. It also reminds me of a game from when I was a kid. You had to build some bug by rolling a dice and getting the different parts based on the number that you rolled. To start you needed a 1 for the body, at the end of the ad, once some kid had built his bug, you heard a kid say "oh, I aint got a 1 yet"

So, I thought it would be nice to console myself with other members, who like me,, aint got a 1 yet....

I've had two in 18 years - on both occassions I was Gold and well short of achieving the retain level
On the first occassion I didn't utilise it but...
On the second I totally used it and went from 0 SC's to over 1400 so I achieved Platinum - Mission Accomplished! (some work funded and a couple of good JASA's to get there)

BTW OP - that game was "Creepy Critters" - still one of my favourite childhood games - and yes "Boy of boy it was a Lincoln toy" - remember that advert?

I don't believe it was random; I'd re-qualified WP only 10 days into the previous year but was well down on average for the new year at the time of the offer.

I am sure that double status credit offers are not random. Qantas target members who are a bit short of a target (gold or platinum) to encourage them to book flights which they would not otherwise have made. I had decided that it was not possible for me to make WP before 31 August, the end of my FF year. However after Qantas were kind enough to offer double status credits, I have booked two flights I would not otherwise have made. I am off tomorrow on a SYD-TSV-SYD JASA which will give me 400 points. WP by next week.

My brother who's SG got the DSC offer but didn't even know. It wasn't until we were chatting & he said "something weird's going on, normally I only get 15 SC for SYD/ADL & I've just got 30".

That was 3 months ago & he now only has 10 SC to go to WP by 31 Aug & hasn't even had to do a JASA or a KUPP either.

The icing on the cake was an op-up to J on his CGK flight before his membership had even ticked over to WP.

The kid was born lucky!

I've been solidly WP for about a decade now and the only one I've ever had was the Australia to HKG to celebrate the A380 service startup earlier this year.

On the other hand, PartnerJohnM's daughter who is PS after a LONE4 last year and some DOM travel this year informed me two nights ago that she got the DSC offer.

Conclusion: It's pretty well targetted - and why not?

1 in 16 years for me....and that was this year.

WP & WP+ (2 years) for the past 6 years, SG for a good few years, PS for most of the rest.

SWMBO has been a member for the same amount of years but WP for only this year - also got her first offer this year.

Need to bear in mind that DSC offers may not have been available or so commonly offered until recent years, therefore distorting the statistics in relation to time at defined status levels.

Never had one, and quite frankly the sooner QF either stop them or introduce an SG+ to replace the current WP and change WP qualification to a higher SC level the better.

Not sure. I went gold a few months ago, but with double SC's will now go WP by 31 August.
I have been a NB for ever, so just started to receive he offers.

Maybe they sent him the email & he registered not knowing really what it was for. He doesn't remember receiving anything though.

There is one simple way of earning those SC that you desire.............. sit yourself in that plane and do the miles.......no wonder the lounges are getting busier, it really devalues something when it is not earned.

My +1 got one and she's PS.
I haven't gotten one and I'm the one flying nowadays. I'd be pushing to make WP if I did =(

I can see it didn't stop you from taking up the VA Plat status match

The J lounges aren't getting more crowded, and by your theory, they should be.

1400 SC's is still double gold. That would mean even with double SC's you'd need to earn 700 SC's. That's a lot of BIS miles.

You can't earn status any other way but BIS. The real reason the QP's are getting busier is more people travelling more frequently IMHO, that and the fact QF keep having specials to join the QP. That, is a joke (considering ATA was removed under the guise of over-crowding).

11 segments in 2 months so far,, my status is being earned sitting on a plane,, my original question was to those who, like me, have never seen a double sc offer,, and to see if maybe there is some common denominator as to how qf decide on who gets them
