This is a live review of Perth Waterfront.

I’ve been a dyed in the wool Parmelia Hilton devotee since I started staying there 20 years ago. However this trip their prices were exorbitant versus the DT Waterfront so it’s time to try. From a 3 nights Perth trip, Monday 1st May and Tuesday 2nd May nights are at the DT. I’ve walked past the property but never been in. It’s also likely to still have some of the staff that left Parmelia when Waterfront opened.

Now the only downside is the loss of the Executive Lounge, but will be interesting to see if I get anything more than just the cookie.

I’m also benefiting from the Amex promotion (spend $300, get $60 back), so I needed to ensure the rate chosen each night was above that figure (King Room for both nights) - but ends up reducing to less than the minimum price quoted on the website. Also, the rate (Air Force F&F) is commissionable, so I put in my TA’s TIDS number as he does a lot of work for me and this is how I give back.

Now as a Diamond, it’s always nice to get an upgrade but normally it happens through the App. This is the first time I’ve ever received an email about an upgrade, it’s normally just shown in the room type.

@tuapekastar you’ll find this of interest.

I have stayed there a couple of times. It’s a good property in an excellent location.

They do have an area closed off that would be the Executive Lounge.
I wonder if there are any plans for it ?

Thee rates seem surprisingly high? I see member rates right now from $230 per night, two nights 1st - 3rd.

Are these separate bookings?

Yes, separate bookings and making use of the Amex “Spend $300, get $60 back” so they aren’t the minimum rates.

They’d automatically selected 1302 for me, but I want the best view:

Let’s see how good that is on Monday

Property: DoubleTree Perth Waterfront
Nights: 2
Status: Diamond
Booked: King Guest
Received: Queen Suite
Rate: Govt ($307.05 first night and $318.75 second night)
Breakfast: Yes, continental at Level 2 restaurant
Lounge Access. None
Early / late check-in / out: Not offered but not needed
Amenity: See pic below.

This was my first stay here - wanted to try it and rates at Hilton were $50+ more per night. Plus I had the Amex offer.

Had upgrade confirmed for both nights (booked separately) 48 hours out respectively. Chose corner high floor room (level 17) and glad I did given these views.

Really loved the property and will use it when Hilton prices mid week are out of my budget.

I didn’t mind the short walk uphill to St George’s Tce and my clients. Was nice to have the park across the road (Old Supreme Court within). The walk on the waterfront every morning was fantastic.

View back to front door. Great space to leave bags and open hanging of clothes. Small shelf and drawers fitting everything

Bathroom is decent size, not too small and sadly all amenities are in pump packs attached to wall. Call me old fashioned, I love the packaged soaps etc, also handy to take away what wasn’t used and donate to homeless shelters

Small desk was well appointed (has cable outlets for charging devices and 2 sets of double plugs on wall behind phone - enough for any work needs

Views - need I say more. First one is from slit window opposite bed. The tin roof shed below is a rowing 🚣‍♀️ club - but only single, double and quad in the morning - no yelling from megaphones.

Opposite the property is a fairly decent sized park with two sections, housing the old Supreme Court building. Handy to do a lap in the morning at beginning or end of walk

Lastly, the bar on level 18, with 360 degree views. A pity I didn’t go up in the daytime for photos of the view.

Whilst expensive (my [tall glass] beer was $14, thankfully there’s a Diamond member discount of $3.50). Very friendly bartenders there that night, had a good chat with both as it wasn’t busy
