We recently had two stays at this property...the first for 12 hours after a long trip from Honolulu so was just glad to check in, had dinner in the restaurant downstairs which was pretty good and reasonable. On checkout they wanted to charge us 18% resort fee, which I objected too because of the short stay and sort of made out that I was not expecting the extra charge and to their credit they did not charge it. The 2nd time we arrived a week later after a cruise for 2 nights - the rooms were not ready, it was 1.00pm and it did state 3.00pm but we were pretty tired and had to wait with a group of others who all received their rooms before us so thought at HH Gold that was a bit poor but they might have had higher status I am not sure. The location is great for the airport only ten minutes away in light traffic and at a cost of about $21.00 with bags. But apart from the closeness to the airport I think I would have preferred to stay somewhere else, even Condado which is about a 15 minute walk away and with beach access did not look that good, but I am sure others would have other recommendations. We really enjoyed the Old Town and spent a really lovely day there walking around and visiting both Fort San Felipe del Morro and San Cristobel - had lunch at Raicies www.restauranteraices.com so for us if there is a next time then the Old Town it will be. Across the road from The Doubletree is a large supermarket with a pharmac_ which came in handy as need to pick up some immodium in a hurry !! Never felt threatened in our time there but did not walk around with much jewellery on either as had heard some stories. I am not normally one to complain but the wireless connection in our room on the 4th floor was woeful and I did mention that too and no resort charge has come through (yet) on my cc. Swimming pool was a welcome relief at the end of a really hot day and for basic food/pasta/sandwiches we found their on site restaurant fine. Free breakfast for HH Gold was OK and they cook eggs to order if you want.
