I have been a member of the QFF program since its inception .

During the problems of the last few years I was saddened by the demise of this once great airline, I do realise I am not the only one feeling this way.

As the subject of this thread indicates I recently lost my platinum status snd reverted back to Lifetime Gold, which I thought was no big deal, until I had to deal with

treatment dished out to me yesterday by Qantas.

Qantas being the only airline that has direct flights to Australia from Asia where I am at the moment, I am stuck wit them.

So I had to make contact with the call centre where the wait times was about 3 minutes (I thought I am doing ok here), but my elation was short lived as my call was

transferred to another consultant because my problem was outside his area of expertise, whatever he meant by that don't know.

I won't make a very long story out of this, so I will end this with question:

How long has Qantas been doing the coughstar thing and charging for seat selection?

And finally may I offer my commiserations to everyone that has to endure this garbage while I was unaware of what you all where going through, it seems that no

number of senate inquires will fix this mess.

Very curious to know this location that's served by a direct Qantas flight and no other airline - BLR?

Look at SQ if you're unhappy with QFF - the product is very good, and their reach and schedules into Asia are second to none.

QF have been charging seat selection for ages. However, wasn't there something that if you book directly there is no charge?

Also, since you're LTG, there should be no charge (unless booking an extra legroom seat, ie exit row).

Qantas seat selection is free for everyone if you book directly with Qantas, but charged if you book via a 3rd party. Of course what seats you can select for free is determined by your status (until t-80 for international).

Gold status or above should allow free seat selection even if booked by a 3rd party.

Check that your FF# is linked and that you aren't accidently selecting exit row seats which do incur an extra charge on some routes.

As above did you book direct with QF?
QF operated and QF marketed?

Complimentary Seat Selection
As a Qantas Frequent Flyer, enjoy complimentary standard seat selection when you book on any Qantas operated domestic or international flight departing Australia.* If your flight isn't originating in Australia and you're a Platinum One, Platinum, Gold or Silver member, you'll also receive complimentary standard seat selection.

Check you meet the requirements and additional conditions for complimentary seat selection.
Check Seat Selection conditions
Full details of the flight would help.
Many other airlines charge for seat selection. If you do not chose to pay the airline will allocate a seat.

Thanks, I go into manage my booking, which is where I selected non exit row seats , which is when the pop up indicated how did I want to pay for the seat.
I assume then the amount asked to pay was >0 or did the pop up ask how did you want to pay with a balance owing of $0.00 ?

The key here is EX AUSTRALIA. If you are gold though it should not matter if booked ex-Asia... should be free for standard seats.
