So, looking for a car for two weeks starting near the end of November, and am finding that adding a second driver is almost doubling the cost of the rental.

Anyone know of a rental company that is nore ressonable?

We also need to drive into Northern Ireland, so if they charge excessively for that instead, no deal.

An automatic would be nice, but is also looking expensive.

We were there in July and rented through Hertz.

Hertz Gold Plus gives a free second driver (spouse or other adult with same address as primary driver).

We rented with Cons Ireland they were very competitive with prices and are owned by Hertz. Their price for an extra driver appears to be Euro 10 per day. I have no idea how good their prices are these days.

This site is ,I think, what I used in 2016 to help with working out my rental thoughts.
