off to Fiji for a bit tmw. Just wondering about duty free prices at the airport, both inbound and outbound in Fiji.

I notice its 1.82 FJD to 1 AUD today, so I'd like to know what people think about purchasing duty free (cosmetics, spirits, wine) in Fiji.

We would like to grab a couple of bottles of wine to keep in the hotel room fridge. I recall wine being quite expensive in retail bottle shops in Fiji.

Mrs Bigjobs would like to get some cosmetics too and I would like a nice single malt on the way back.

thanks in advance.

They should be better than Australian DF prices (not hard to do). I always have bought in Fiji rather than Australia. Check on the in-bound for prices for the outbound. And buy the big packs of water on the inbound - they are much cheaper than any hotel and most shops. There are a few wine shops in Fiji - but it depends where you are staying.

Mmm the DF allowance is 2.25L of spirits or 4.5L of wine or beer. Ask the DF shops if you can mix them.

IMHO Fiji DF prices are not cheap.

Purchase it in Aust before you leave the country.

Everything in Fiji has to be freighted in from NZ or Aust.

Isn't the tap water drinkable in most of Fiji, or is it just the main island?

I don't drink the water in any country apart from bottled water.

NAN has been ok for me.

My first hand read of prices in NAN (updated Nov 2011).

Buy the wine in aus and take with you.

Buy basic spirits at NAN.

Buy upmarket spirits in Aus on arrival.

can't help on cosmetics sorry but would guess Aus. For return purchase you can check prices outbound, then compare anyway.

Checked my last trip to Fiji. And NAN was about 10% cheaper than SYD or MEL for basic spirits.
