Yes I think it won’t be missed
Though for those looking for a 1 stop into continental Europe DXB still gives the most options

I would do HEL even with the additional stops as a gateway into Continental EU

Although I'm glad to go back to a route via SIN, I think I came out ahead in the DXB experiment. It 'forced' me onto EK F a couple of times, and presented some new options to get to certain destinations. I still say I think one of the best steaks I ever had was in the DXB Flounge.

My choice of Gulf carriers will continue to be QR however, blockade or no.

EK was certainly (for a while) more forthcoming with upgrades for QF FF.

Friends have flown WY transiting in KUL and MCT. The experiment has( for them anyway) introduced other ME airlines.

EK was more forthcoming with upgrades as they over booked more often. One flight I know of had 50 seats over booked.

They don't manage the yeild software very well.

With family in northern Germany I certainly utilised and valued the MEL-DXB (QF) DXB-HAM (EK) options available. So now it’s QF via SIN or PER and LHR. Or EK codeshares all the way. Not sure which way I’ll go in August this year.

While the op-ups are consigned to history, and nice while they lasted, I'm still very much enjoying the premium award redemptions and the occasional lounge access alternative.

That's open to debate. I don't think EK does yield management badly, just differently. They're trying to maximise load factors and they often open up more cheap seats at the last minute when all other airlines have higher fares - meaning they get more last-minute bookings.

Keep in mind, they don't tend to oversell flights so much - they just oversell economy and upgrade people.

I love the DXB lounge Risotto. Their breakfast offerings were delicious. Meh. What am I saying. We always have to transit through DXB or Doha anyway. Not going to do the Perth route.

Everyone’s different. I found the food in DXB FLounge to be underwhelming in comparison to MEL and SYD FLounges.

EK is (and always has been) a woeful airline. Particularly in J, where the service is consistently poor and the less said about the 77W J seat the better.

At least EK were relatively cheap prior to the QF/EK alliance.

Also, if I never hear the phase 'We cannot do XYZ because you are on a QF ticket' again, I will be a happy camper...

While passenger experiment has concluded, 8 Airbuses are still going to fly to DXB for repainting commencing with OQF 2 days ago.

What is the cost to ferry an empty A380 13.5 hours - fuel plus minimum 4? pilots and maybe 1? cabin crew

Have you looked at WY? Transit through MCT.

From Adelaide???

Have a look at it ... I am/do, starting in HBA... there is a brand new terminal at MCT, Oman Air does have a great long-haul J product, and they regularly have really cheap prices for that great J product starting from places like Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to Europe via MCT.

Yes, I know that's a bit of a round-about way, but this is AFF :)

Plus, their FF program is called Sinbad

Wouldn't most of them be ferried to/from LHR or SIN?

Maybe when we are properly retired. Right now we relish ADL-DOH/DXB then on to Europe. Even if it means we do miss the F lounge. Is Oman part of that anyway?
