Hi
Recently made reservations on MH via the STA travel website for a return trip to CMB. All legs are on MH flight numbers and on MH metal. I tried to bid for an upgrade but was told by Malaysian that the eticket is not eligible as this particular ticket was not issued by MH. I thought the eticket HAS to be issued by the airline I'm flying on. My eticket number starts with 000 (and not 232). Could someone please explain what's going on here.

Thanks

For years STA have had their own ticket stock for some reason. Not sure why ...... just know they have.

A number of the big travel agencies have their own ticket stock. Probably helps them negotiating access to bulk lots of seats.

Does this mean that I'll have to deal with STA (and their significant change fees) rather than MH if I want to make any date changes even after travel commences?

Don't all travel agent bookings require you to deal with the agent first, except in limited circumstances.

Nope. Have gotten DAS13's and some US and EU short returns from Flight Center over last few years. Only have to deal with Flight Center before each ticket starts being used. Once the first coupon has been used, I can deal with the airline.

A bit of black humour perhaps.....The emergency phone number being used for MH!
