early check in at DFW

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to check in early at DFW for QF8 to Sydney? Qantas website says checkin opens at 6pm. We would like to check in bags and get boarding passes about 2pm, then go out with friends and not woory about getting back to airport till about 9pm.

From my experience the check-in opened at 6 as stated. I was on a connecting flight but needed to sort out seating. My bags had been checked through and I waited in the AA lounge until 5.55 and went back outside. Check-in was just setting up and opened a few minutes later.
