Earn 100 Starpoints when you pledge to participate in Earth Hour on March 26, 2011.

When it comes to helping the planet, small steps can make a big difference. That's why we're asking SPG® members around the world to join us in observing Earth Hour this year.

Pledge to switch off your lights for one full hour on Saturday, March 26, 2011, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time, and receive 100 bonus Starpoints®. Join the more than 500 Starwood hotels and resorts around the world that will be observing Earth Hour this year. It's a small commitment to the environment we all can keep. Together, we can make a bold statement against climate change.

You beat me to it oz_mark. I've registered and the acceptance screen notes:

Your bonus Starpoints will be posted to your SPG® account no later than April 15, 2011.

I wonder whether these 100 pts are sufficient to keep my SPG account active:?:

Well done Starwood. Good promo and doubtful that 100 points per pledge will cost them much anyway.

I asked the same question on another FF BB and was told:
Nope. Last I looked at the terms and conditions, only purchases at Starwood properties and points from the Starwood credit card will keep your account active.
so I looked on the SPG website. Seems a grey areas to me, as on this page, it states:

•Starpoints never expire as long as you have Starpoints activity at least once every 12 months.

and in the Preferred Guest Member Guide it states in the second dotpoint:
your Starpoints never expire as long as you show account activity once per year.

So the question remains, does this 100 points equte to account activity? I think (and hope) so...

A nice gesture from SPG, even if it is rather folly exercise (there's no way to hold those who decide to take advantage of SPG's generosity to account in that they actually participate in Earth Hour).

What would be nice is if SPG hotels participated in Earth Hour, and every patron who stayed at a SPG hotel during the time all the lights were turned off were offered say 200-500 SPG points.

The 100 points pales in comparison with my Star Mega Do 2 bonus which credited recently :p ;) but it's a nice lifter for everyone.

Lucky I only have 249 points left, so I won't be crying if they close the account on me, although they may get a night out of me on my upcoming trip to Europe

Well, they are only asking you to pledge to participate.

I'll be in a Starwood Hotel that night - will they rescind the points if they notice my room light on? :)

Thanks oz_mark!

Sounds like a good cause and I shall remember to participate....
