I received this offer in a postcard on Friday... transfer 20,000 points from Amex Membership Rewards to Velocity before 28 February and receive Silver status. Transfer 50,000 points and receive Gold status.

(All American Express Corporate Cards, American Express Business Cards, David Jones American Express Cards, and all Cardmembers who did not receive a personally addressed direct mail invitation for this promotion are ineligible to participate in this offer.)

an interesting offer.

suppose it's a good deal for Velocity - they get a lot of points purchased, and silver membership only costs them some free luggage. could be worth it to get to gold for the free lounge access

I just received the postcard last night, so I'm sure more of them will be trickling in for everyone soon enough!

I too got the post card, but alas, there's no way i'm going to amass that many MR points in that time. Oh well. I wouldn't be able to use them on DJ anyway as I never fly them:)

That is a big fail to Amex & DJ then if you don't have anywhere near the balance of points and as you said "no way to ... amass that many" it was pointless offering it to you. Based on your past spend it sounds like you won't get near it and even if you dramatically increased your spend you probably wouldn't get it. (Correct me if I am wrong)

But my point being that was a silly offer, if I received the postcard for the extra Velocity points earned as a Gold I would move all my travel to DJ/VA etc...

Oh well give it another few days and see if it turns up

Who was the offer actually issued by? Was it AMEX or was it through Velocity Rewards? I'm just curious to see if I too will receive the offer (& who to call to see if I'm eligible!)

The postcard came from Amex.

Whilst it is a tempting offer, I only redeem points for international routes (mainly to Asia). Velocity scheme for non-VirginBlue group flights are expensive and also very restricted. So I would not be doing it only because I hardly fly domestic.

However, if the offer is for Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold level, then I would be jumping all over it

I don't think I would park 50,000 Amex MR points in Velocity to get Gold status for 1 year even if I had received the postcard.

I just cannot see how I would use that Gold status or even what to do with the points.

Free lounge access is worth $0 to me as I already that through Amex.

Why would you do it?
32kgs of checked baggage instead of 0kgs on standard DJ fares. $10-$82 saving per flight on DJ

7 points/SCs per $1 instead of 5 with pleb membership

40% bonus on flights with V Australia

Of course the ability to use the 50,000 Velocity points on flights.

Win/Win - But no postcard for me

Uh, fly SYD-BNE-SYD every week perhpas?

Move international trips to SQ (using CC points).

Might be time to ask DJ for a status match??

We got the postcard and I have transferred 20,000 points over. They probably would have been going there anyway and we'll get into the lounge at Xmas and have priority check in - or so I thought.

The points are there - but no status change. Anyone else transferred points? I can't remember what the card says about the time it takes for the status change to come through - and not confident that if I ring either amex or dj that I will get any joy from either of them...

Well I almost fly weekly and to be honest QF is cheaper than DJ most of the time.

Move international trips to SQ (using CC points).
That is the plan and I do not want to waste 50,000 valuable Amex MR points (a return award on SQ to almost anywhere in Asia) for a 1 year DJ Gold membership.

I already have anytime lounge access now. Not just domestic but for international flights as well.

25% back from Velocity on Christmas flights

NB, don't forget that if you transfer points into Velocity Rewards and use them before 31 January for flights before 30 June 2010, you will get 25% back of the points used (from the Credit Card).

e.g.
transfer 50k, use 50k (or more), get 12.5k back + gold
transfer 20k, use 20k (or more), get 5k back + silver

So overall, 1k MR = 1.25k Velocity, ie. 50k MR = 62.5k Velocity.

62.5k Velocity should get you a return BNE-DPS... 70k to HKT.

I still don't think it's worth it especially as I have lounge access on *A and Oneworld.
