I am flying Cathay Melbourne/Hong Kong/Melbourned and I will be travelling within China (Hong Kong/Taiyuan/Beijing/Xian/Shanghai/Hong Kong) via China Eastern.
I am a Qantas ff Gold (noxx_XX) Oneworld Sapphire.and want to maximise my ff points and status credit earn as my Gold rebnewal is coming up.

I understand Cathay has a partner relationship with Chine Eastern - do I earn oneworld points on Chine Eastern?.

If I joined the China Eastern ff program would the points earned be convertible to Cathay Pacific/oneworld ff points?

Any other ideas on maimising the earning capacity?

You only earn Qantas FF points when you fly with Qantas, or any of their airline partners, China Eastern isn't a partner. When you fly with Cathay then you earn Qantas points because of their oneworld partnership, but Cathay's partner airlines do not automatically become Qantas' partner airlines.

Points can't be transferred across FF programmes.

Depending on class you may be able to credit to AsiaMiles (Cathay) or MileageBank (JAL), and I believe these are the only one world programs you could credit to. Bear in mind that in doing so, you may end up with a small number of points that you can't readily use.

I guess your already booked but maybe some flights you could do on Dragon Air (KA) instead of China Eastern if they fly to those locations, they are a oneworld member and you will get SC and points.

Not to mention in my opinion a better flight experience.

Unfortunately will not earn FF points on QFF program.

Cathay Pacific Airways (CX), including Cathay Pacific Airways' affiliate Dragon Air (KA)

Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.
Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on joint venture flights or Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld ™ Alliance Airlines.

Sorry to revive this very old threat, but I have a slightly different question that is probably most appropriate here -

If I book a flight from Melbourne through to Beijing with Qantas, the final leg from PVG-PEK is on a China Eastern flight with a QF flight number. Given it has a QF flight number is it eligible for points earning?

According to this post from serfty, I believe you are eligible to earn points and SC's for this MU operated flight on the proviso your travel is booked in an eligible fare class.

If you book the QF flight number then (at least as far as I know) it earns as if it were a regular QF flight. Different story if you book the MU flight number of course..

Just to clarify, that as long as you have a QF flight number then you'll earn points and status credits irrespective of the class booked.
