Hi all,

If I fly SYD to AUH on QF340 which is an Ethiad operated service, will I still earn SC's and Points as if it was a Qantas operated service. Also, does it allow 1st lounge access, priority boarding, 1st check-in and all the other perks of being WP?

Cheers,
DM

I think you will find that service is no longer available, with the changes announced yesterday, although they will take some time to filter through the system.

It does show as available on the QF website and expert flyer.

Assuming it is available...?

If not, will QF run their own service? what about other options for OneWorld to AUH/DXB?

what about other options for OneWorld to AUH/DXB?

AUH:

  • British Airways:
    • London-Heathrow
    • Oman-Muscat
  • Royal Jordanian:
    • Amman-Queen Alia
    • Oman-Muscat

DXB:

  • British Airways:
    • London-Heathrow
  • Cathay Pacific Airways:
    • Hong Kong
  • Royal Jordanian:
    • Amman-Queen Alia
    • Jordan-Aqaba (seasonal)
    • Oman-Muscat (seasonal)
  • S7 Airlines:
    • Russian Federation-Novosibirsk (when they join OW)

In your case, I would go for a flight to HK and then catch the CX service, you’ll get F lounge all the way there ;)

Yes, there is no reason why you shouldn't get points and SCs as if it were a Qantas service. First Lounge access is open to conjecture. Some people have had issues accessing the First Lounge when booked on the Air Pacific flight between Sydney and Nadi, even as a WP. My reading of the rules here suggests you wouldn't be allowed access as your flight is only marketed by QF/oneworld, not marketed and operated. However, the consensus seems to be that as long as you have a QF flight number on the boarding pass, you should be okay. The other WP benefits like priority boarding, luggage allowance and First check-in won't apply as it is a codeshare service.

Thanks...

None of those options are wonderfully appealing from Sydney! Even the HKG route is a 9 hour flight followed by an 8.5 hour flight, even if there is a good F lounge in between! From where I live in China I'd go via Honkers every time, but Aus to the middle east is fairly limited on OW. I'd love to fly emirates, but that don't get me no points!

Looking like my itinerary is going to go like this:

TAO-HKG-SYD-BNE-SYD-AUH-AMM-CAI-AMM-HKG-TAO

Flying KA, QF, QF(EY), RJ

Flying QF(EY)

Well just be aware that there could be issues earning points/SC’s with the fallout from DJ now partnering with EY and QF’s agreement possibly void now.

The SMH said that the deal had ended when the deal between EY and DJ launched yesterday.

Surely if they sell it as a QF ticket, they have to honour the agreement to give points and SC's? My travel agent has held the seats, and it appears as a QF flight number on "my bookings" page...

Am I going to have to write a pissy letter to Qantas upon my return????

Having a booking versus getting a ticket that is honoured are two different things, I would not be going down that path.

OK a quick call to 131211 and I have the answers.

The QF/EY codeshare agreement ends on 29 Nov 2010, up until then it's business as normal.

I asked about the first lounge, and the guy on the phone said I could get in no problem. I referred him to the # note on the qf website, and he went off to check with a supervisor, then came back and told me I couldn't. Even he said he thought it was strange considering QF are making revenue from the flight. My view is it's always worth trying your luck at the desk anyway.

I would some how be ringing the F Lounge and asking them directly what the go is. If they say yes get their name and ask them to write your names in the diary for the date of departure in case the lounge dragon du jour has 'issues'.

With codeshares etc there are so many variables re lounge access that it's almost impossible (as we have seen) for airlines to be on top of it so what hope has the rest of us got?

You would think that for the cost of a glass of champagne and a little wagu cheesburger, they would let their platinum members in whenever they are on a flight that has anything at all to do with QF, OW or one of their partners. It is a small price to pay to keep your best customers happy!

I might give them a call though, see if that works. Although when I've asked previously (actually at the lounge in BNE), if my partner could bring all 3 kids in there when she flew up to visit me a few weeks later, they just kind of shrugged and said it depends how we feel on the day, same at the cx lounge in HKG, both looked blankly at me when I mentioned writing a note in the diary. Turned out on the day that they let them all in BNE but cx said no in HKG

Re: lounge access. I flew MEL - AUH - BAH a couple of months ago on the QF codeshare. I had all the perks of WP in Australia, but none in AUH or BAH. I could not get into the 1st or any lounge in AUH (even the BA lounge)

If on a QF flight number then First Lounge access is provided.

The most annoying word I hear when it comes to OW Alliance is seamless! In their dreams or as our recently ousted PM said "absolute bunkum".

If it was seamless we wouldn't have situations above where it seems getting lounge access has the same odds as winning the lottery.

I do think the alliance needs to look at improvements, or as is often said on this board, 'enhancements', as they really do need to be more seamless than they are now, and compared to the competition at times, status doesn’t give a whole lot.

And I’m sure I’m sure I’ll raise the flames saying this, but it’s true, they think of themselves as being the best alliance when they really do have some strange policies with regard to sharing benefits of status between airlines.
