Hi all,

Just flew LHR-SYD on QF2, upgrading a purchased Business class seat to First class by redeeming points, but earned no frequent flyer points or SC's through. Huh? Is that correct? I can understand not earning on a 1st class basis, but to get nothing at all - that seems very harsh! Have the QFF program amended it's T&C to this effect? If so it devalues the value of points used for upgrading significantly.

On another note would the points accrue on a LHR-BKK-SYD basis or a straight LHR-SYD basis? There could be a difference in SC and points accrual. For future reference, what is the best point to route for a LHR-SYD flight to maximise points/SC earn?

Also, when does the qualifying period start/end to retain status? I have reached Platinum until Nov 2009 so does that mean any subsequent flights from this point count towards retention or is it 1yr after Nov 2009?

Thanks experts.

No expert, but I can tell you I did the same upgrade from LHR-HKG a week ago and received the full J points and SC's posted promptly. I have had a glitch with a CX flight YVR-JFK with QF having no record of the flight. You may be in a similar boat.

wrldtrvllr,

You should get the points and SC's for the ticket that you have paid for.

I had it a few months ago where an upgraded flight came up as a rewards flight. I simply rang the FF number and as soon as it was looked at they saw the error and allocated the appropriate points and SC's.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

No it's not. Read this happening to others as well. You should submit points claim to QF to get this corrected.

As for status, any status credits you earn after your status expiry date minus one year (ie Nov XX 2008) will count towards status for the following year (Nov 2009- Nov 2010).

Thanks dajop,

I missed part two.

It's a common problem; a simple telephone call to QFF should have it fixed. Make sure you have your e-ticket doco available - you should not need it, but just in case.

As others have mentioned, its not uncommon for this to happen. Just contact QFF and explain the situation and they will adjust for you. You could just send an email with the flight details explaining you paid for business class and upgraded to first class and would like an adjustment for the business class status credits and points for the flight.

This depends on what your ticket says. If the ticket is for SYD-BKK-LHR then you should earn for 2 sectors. If the ticket says SYD-LHR then you earn as a single sector.

Your membership year is from 1st December until 30th November. So any status credits earned before 30th November do not count towards requalification for next year. Status credits earned after 1st December will count towards requalification for your next year.
