As of yesterday ANZ Qantas credit cards no longer earn points on government charges. This includes things like council rates and car registration. The only card alternative (excluding AMEX) I can find that earns points on government charges is CBA however the earn rate is only 0.4 points/dollar. AMEX don't exclude government charges but is rarely accepted in the first instance.

Is anybody familiar with an alternative credit card that earns points on government charges ?

not many left now.
best is to go through a payment "middleman" like sniip & others.
You can try amex via paypal as some govt utilities accept paypal

I use Yakpay for paying the ATO and local rates. It also allows me to make payments through bank transfers, which some of the tradespeople, carpet companies etc use. Yakpay charge my credit card (plus their surcharge) so I get the points that way. I also pick some extra points through Qantas Business Rewards.

NAB Signature card earns 1QFF:$1 on government related charges.
