Earning QF status credits on QR flights

Trying to find the fine print on this and hoping for an expert's advice on here as the QF website is vague on specifics!
Have booked return flights on Qatar Airways to Paris and have entered my QFF number in the booking.
Are these flights eligible for QF status credits if NOT booked through the Qantas website? (I am QF silver)
I am not currently a (QR) Privilege Club member but wondered if I joined it would negate any QF benefits gained?

Should be perfectly fine. Flew QR from Europe back in January, booked through Amex Travel - QFF number for me, VA FF for the better half - and all went fine. QFF and VA points/SC were posted to us both, relatively quickly (SG for QF; PS for VA). QF was faster than VA actually, which surprised me.

As long as your Qantas frequent flyer number is in the booking, you’ll earn on QFF *if eligable*. Just check that the fare bucket you have booked will actually earn. I’m not sure, but I think some Qatar fares don’t.

Being a Qatar PC member will be irrelevant if you have your QFF number in the booking.

if you might be flying Qatar or British Airways or Iberia some in the future, you might think about crediting the flight to Qatar Privilege Club. All those airlines earn Avios which are more valuable than Qantas Frequent flyer points. If you have some of the latter and none of the former then, Qantas is probably it.

RooFlyer is 100% correct here; my bad! Check the flight class and eligibility: my recent QR flights were in J so it probably went a lot smoother (with both QF and VA) than it could have. In the past, I did some Y flights with QR back from Europe and got absolutely nothing from QFF, even as a SG.

As long as it’s an eligible fare then yes you will earn SC’s albeit at the disgustingly low earn rate that QF imposes

OK , I have just discovered my fares are "S" and "T" class economy fares with QR.

Based on this - do i assume I will NOT earn either points OR status credits with Qantas for this? If that is the case, should I link my flight instead to Privilege Club? (I had not even heard of S or T class until today!)

Correct, you won’t earn on that class.
Another option could be to credit to VA if you have an account. If you are Australian based you might find that works better. For VA both S and T class book into Discount Economy and a return trip from day Melbourne to Paris would net you 140 SC’s. As far as points get with VA, in S class you earn 0.75 points per mile and in T class 0.5 points per mile so it’s better than nothing

That's excellent advice thank you - I will do that. I was not aware that VA could earn points flying QR as I have a heap of those also.

Earning Qantas SCs by flying in Y on partner airlines is always something to be wary of, I think with J you should be fine, albeit at a reduced earn rate. Especially if its a route that competes with Qantas/Emirates.

Vienna.

Flying QR in J from VIE-xDOH-CGK and then QF CGK-SYD. Different PNRs.

She was adamant that QR could only check my bags through to CGK and I would have to make my own arrangements there. I was equally adamant about not crossing the Indonesian border and that OW membership still existed (if only in name between QR and QF). 15 minutes later it was sorted but battle lines had to be drawn!

Ah, thats fine. Just a thought as you would get lounge access etc which might make your trip a little more comfortable.
The points and SC’s to VA might come in handy though

For Lisa31jane, since QR and VA joined into an agerement FF wise and price and service wise few months ago, earning VFF points on QR is a possibility.
Before the JV/agreement, VFF points couldn't be earnt on QR.
But now, yes.
