Earning Velocity points on a Delta Codeshare?

Hi,

I am looking at going to LAX in Sep and have found I can book a Delta Codeshare flight using Virgin cheaper than booking direct with Virgin themselves (by about $1000 for a J Class fare). Can I still earn Velocity points on this Delta Codeshare using Virgin metal?

Yes you will earn points and status credit at the Delta rates as it would be a Delta coded flight.

However, In this specific instance, both the $6800 VA Business deal ticker and the $5800 Delta business ticket will earn points and status credits at the same rate.

Thus, I would definitely book the flight through Delta!

So if I book via delta to fly MEL-LAX-MEL on virgin metal do I get the status bonus?

From velocity rewards:
Receive a 75% Points bonus on miles flown on Virgin Australia International Long and Short haul flights on top of the base points earned

Can anyone see ANY disadvantage booking via delta? They currently have a better price.

No you won't get the bonus unless it is a VA flight number
