So it's been a few months now since QF dropped two of its four daily services to LHR. It was always going to be EK picking up the slack, but interesting in the last couple of months we've seen SQ:
- First increasing SIN-LHR capacity by changing from 2xA380/1x77W to 3xA380
- Then adding another service to become 3xA380+1x77W for SIN-LHR
- Increasing capacity to MEL by replacing a 77W with A380
- Increasing PER flights from 2x to 3xdaily and adding extra 3 ADL flights a week.
- Adding DRW through regional subsidiary SilkAir
No doubt the QF cut in capacity and new VA partnership contributed to this. I haven't tracked EK closely, they're also adding ADL daily, adding extra PER services and adding capacity to MEL with switch to A380, I'm sure all helped along by QF capacity cuts.
But also a throwaway remark- we've always known QF is SYD-centric, but with these expansions others are making in the AFL states - wonder if QF's long term Wallabies sponsorship is really starting to pay dividends ... for EK and SQ!
