I know that when using the complimentary domestic AMEX Velocity award flight you do not earn points or status credits but do the flights themselves count as eligible sectors for status re-qualification?

In my experience, no points or SCs on complimentary AMEX flights, and they have never counted as eligible sectors either.

However, I have seen people on other threads recently saying that they got both points and SCs for these complimentary flights, in which case I assume they counted as eligible sectors too. Not sure if this is a change in policy or just a glitch.

Recently used an Amex flight, I made sure Amex put my Velocity number on the booking and I received SC, points and sectors. I think it can be the luck of the draw though.

Best of luck.

Curious to know if it is luck of the draw, or if things have changed recently. I've had the Platinum Edge for 6 years and the Velocity Platinum for 2, and I've used the complimentary flight from both every year (so I guess 8 complimentary flights now - but the last was booked >6 months ago). I've had my Velocity number in the booking every time, primarily for seat selection purposes, and never received points, SCs or sectors. My wife also had the Velocity Platinum for a year and had the same experience. Maybe we have just been (very) unlucky, but on the other hand all the people I have seen say they got points/SCs were referring to very recent flights - hence my feeling it might be a recent change. Anyone got any experience of getting points/SCs/sectors on complimentary flights prior to the last few months?

In any case, they seem to be in the process of phasing out complimentary flights on Amex cards, to be replaced by travel credits, so soon I think it will be a moot point.

Since this is being replaced with a travel credit I will state my experience is one of using the Reserve for Trans-Tasman earned points based on distance along with 'eligible segments".

Domestic Oz did not. I only did the latter once
