QantasLink today announced it will introduce Fokker F100* jet services between Brisbane and Emerald from 4 June 2012. These new jet services will support Q400 services on the route whilst also providing cascaded growth across several key Queensland markets including Roma and Bundaberg.

QantasLink Executive Manager Narendra Kumar said QantasLink’s expansion of Queensland services would position the airline to cater for current and future growth in the region.

“We’ve listened to our customers who want access to more seats at peak times. The introduction of jet aircraft on Emerald, the repositioning of Q400 aircraft and the recent launch of additional B717s on key Queensland markets will allow QantasLink to meet customer demand.”

Alongside the introduction of 19 F100 jet services, QantasLink will also add four extra flights between Brisbane and Emerald taking the total number of return services on the route to 45 per week.

Additional Q400 aircraft services will benefit several key markets as follows:

  • Increased flights between Brisbane and Roma with four additional services introduced to provide over 290 new seats per week.
  • Customers travelling between Brisbane and Bundaberg will have access to an extra 392 seats per week.
  • Customers travelling to and from Newcastle, Hervey Bay and Biloela will also benefit from extra seats becoming available on these markets.

QantasLink customers can book tickets on these new services from today by visiting qantas.com

*F100 services between Emerald and Brisbane will be operated on behalf of QantasLink by Alliance Airlines.

This is interesting for a few reasons. As someone who used to fly to Emerald fairly regularly, I never thought I'd see jets on the route!

Most interesting is that this means Alliance will be doing F100 codeshares for both Qantas and Virgin out of BNE, on different routes. (Alliance operates F100s to NTL for Virgin).

Not sure they will be codeshares, QFlink have been running the F100 to ROK and MKY for close to two years, I was at MKT one day when a punter wanted to know what airline the F100 was.

I wonder in the old Germania and US Airways jets sitting near the Alliance hanger will finally get a run.

I think they are spares depots. You have to wonder about our future with so many aircraft popular with airlines but no longer made, SF340, 717's and FK70/100s.

Not to mention AAs collection of MD80/90s.

I still find the F100s to be a really enjoyable ride. So quiet up the front rows and really comfy seats.

Haven't been in a 717 (yet), but I imagine they're the same.

The F100 is much smaller, much older and much less comfortable than the 717 IMO*

Will these F100 wear QF colors? There is speculation the ones operating for DJ will get the Virgin branding.

Is the seat pitch not 34 inches in the XR fokkers, which is more than the 717's?

I'm not sure the exact seat pitch (I think 34 is right) and Skywest does claim their F100 has the most legroom in Australian domestic service.

That said it certainly felt a lot more squashy in the cabin of the F100 than in the 717 - the lower ceilings, older style overhead bins and chairs and the old "yellow plastic" style inside perhaps played a visual trick on me!

I need to fly the QF F100.... To tick it off my list of QF equipment to fly!

Where else is QFLink flying/planning to fly them does anyone know off the top of their head?

They've been doing QF runs to Mackay and Rockhampton for quite a while now.

Not to mention all the 757s in the LOTFAP.
