um .. I'm a little slow , so please bear with me..

Can you post a link as I couldn't find the offer.

I assume that this is ex Dubai, so one assumes that the journey must originate there. ?

Soooo.. Is it such a great deal for the masses of 'Oz ?

After all , one way options that would be required to put together the balance of a trip are usually not cost effective ?

i've updated the op to include the link.

The fare is in EUR and the thread title says it is ex ATH i.e. greece.

~3500 AUD for ath-dxb-syd-dxb-ath in emirates F is a good deal any day of the week. Didn't know we were catering for the masses here in AFF ;)

true one-way fares getting to greece could be expensive... but hey you could redeem points for a cheap one way ticket.

Actually, you'll need a return ticket (ie ATH-HKG-ATH). The booking engine won't let you book a one-way (ie ATH-SYD)

Also, remember that the fare class will be "Saver" and not "Flex", which means essentially half the status miles (not that you should really care given the value of the tickets)

For example, the above itinerary ATH-HKG-ATH in J prices out at A$1500 each.

If you price the above in F, it works out at A$2000 per person.
(Hell, I reckon I could drink $1500 worth of Krug or Dom champagne on both the A380 flights!)

But you're still going to need to get to ATH to start your journey. I suppose if you had the points on QF or similar and were wanting to make a "holiday" out of it and could find seats, it might be worth it.

Even if you booked revenue out of MEL or SYD on EK, a cheap Y return is going to cost you A$2000, so for $4 grand, it's still a great deal (although you will be an unhappy camper coming all the way home from ATH jammed down the back, when you have just gotten off the A380 F suite). Put it down as character building.

If you felt like splashing out, a J return (MEL-ATH-MEL) is just over $7K, meaning for a total of $9K you could travel in J and F and achieve Gold status just with those 2 trips (actually 49,000 tier miles) but so close, EK would give it to you anyway.

And for those of you wanting to do a Mileage Run, I suppose that might be an option - but I wouldn't know anything about Mileage Runs and reckon the people that do them are "freaks" ;)

Are you the eightblack from FT :shock:

If so I am a big fan of yours... I love your writing style... welcome to AFF :D

Is anybody is interested in accompanying me on a trip from ATH?? let me know.

When are where? I may be interested, however you would need to answer the following questions.

1. If you don't drink, then have a nice time. With someone else.
2. See question 1.
3. See question 2.
4. See question 3.

5. No photos. If I want my picture taken, I'll steal a car.
6. Has to be in F. Not J.
7. Not interested in seeing a great deal of ATH, apart from eating a lot of fried cheese and pickled octopus. I strongly suggest separate rooms for that part of the trip. Actually for all parts of the trip. I have to take a lot of medication and its not the sort you can take orally ;)

Well I hope it's the sort you jab yourself with, because if it's the one that goes the other end, then what'd be the point if it'll just come right out again? :p :D
