InsideFlyer, the U.S. magazine dedicated to miles deals, lists in its August edition the following Qantas deal:

Miscellaneous bonuses:

Award: up to 10,000 bonus points
Expires: 12/31/2004
Restrictions: Sign a three-year residential energy contract with EnergyAustralia and earn 2,000 bonus points if you choose to pay your bills automatically from your credit card or bank account. In addition, residents of New South Wales earn 2,000 points for electing electricity only and 5,000 points for both gas and electricity. Victoria residents who choose electricity only earn 3,000 points and 7,000 points for signing up for both gas and electricity service. South Australia residents who choose electricity only will earn 4,000 points and 8,000 points for signing up for both. For more information, call 1 (800) 284 568

I am unable to find any info on this offer directly from the company and online. Do you know of it? Would someone over there care to call them and ask about it? I am very reluctant to list the offer on my (U.S. based) website (below) without verification, and so would appreciate any info on and/or links for it.

Thanks.

Energy Australia is this instance is a retailer of electricity.
If you sign a 3 year contract they are also offering a 5% discount over 3 years off the base rates which is 5.5% if you include GST and this may be of better monetary value than the points, in my case 5.5% would be around $180 over 3 years. Which is around 18,000 points in value, depending on how you value the points.

Can't get both the discount and the points?

Thanks for you reply.

Are you saying that you can't get both the discount and the points?

Thanks.

As far as I know only one or the other and 2000 QFF points are worth at the most $20.

A few months back Energy Aust had an offer with AMEX with a special points offer. I calculated the discounted offer over the AMEX points offer and the discount option was much superior.

Look at the full picture before signing up and be wary of their marketing tricks.

thanks

Thanks, everyone. I will mention the cash discount vs. points when I post this offer on my website.

We have a similar offer for energy in Texas, (Gexa Energy) where the cash discount is better than the miles.
