Tonight on SBS at 7.30, Richard Hammonds Engineering Connections is doing a show on HKA.

If you haven't seen the show before, he looks at all the complex things involved in the project that is being focused on and breaks them down into basic engineering concepts. I like it.

I’ll have a look. One of the few things I remember about my childhood in HK is when the airport was being built and all the promotional/info sheets my dad brought home with him (working in the construction industry).

I’m still waiting for them to build the “X” terminal, it always looked so cool in the concepts, but I guess they didn’t need it at the time and still don’t?

I also remember the first few days after it opened with all cargo being sorted at Kai Tak and the Airport Express breaking down several times to the airport.

I missed it.
But I'm sure foxtel will repeat it at least 12 times in the next week (glares at foxtel box)

Fascinating show and I learnt a lot about the airport. Will look at it a lot differently next I pass through it. I remember Lantau Island when it had the Vietnamese refugee camp there, I knew a few co-workers at the time who passed through there on their way to Australia. Not a pleasant place.

Next weeks show is about the A380. Am looking forward to that as well.

Given it was on SBS, I'm not sure that Foxtel will repeat it (SBS+2?); SBS might but probably not in the near future.

Thanks for the reminder; I managed tor record the last 50 minutes on my HDD - will watch it in the next few days.

It will be repeated on Nat Geo frequently enough. Although its on SBS's version of 'iview'

Interesting show, quite enjoyed it.

Certainly involved a few reminders of high school physics, but presented way better!

Watched it, liked the bit about the wishbones, but it wasn’t what I expected it to be (that being the first episode I’ve seen). I was looking forward to something on the whole construction project :(

These shows are very well presented and have become a favourite must-watch for my 13yo daughter.

Had the rather odd pleasure of watching this on SBS's catch up service today during a long layover at The Wing. Definitely noticed lots of those Y braces littered across the roof! :)

And bless SBS for not yet succumbing to the evils of location-based IP blocking like iView on ABC.

Woohoo! Perhaps I can check it out without the usual "You're not in Australia" restrictions on most shows that you can access over the net.

A friend of mine, who definitely isn't an airline nut, emailed me about the show and expressed their want to visit the airport to find out how it worked out. Now that's advertising!

Personally I like HKG quite a bit, and appreciate what was involved, but visit it enough to actually gloss over many important details. Will be good viewing.

I also remember the first few days after it opened with all cargo being sorted at Kai Tak and the Airport Express breaking down several times to the airport.

I remember the first day it opened, my bags got home 8 weeks later, no lounges were open, the flight displays were not working and it was the first time I have ever seen a fully loaded 747 only carry 6 bags!
