eSim recommendations for Vietnam ( Calls + Data )

Hi Experts , We have an upcoming trip to Vietnam in December for 15 days. As the international roaming with Telstra is 10$ per day , looking at options to buy a prepaid eSim that gives data and calls. I have checked few of the plans for Airalo , Holafly , eTravelSim , Simsdirect but all of them are providing data only options.

Can someone please suggest any recommendations for plans that include calls + data as I don't want to activate the international roaming with Telstra.

I am interested in the concept of eSims but have no experience with them.
The notion of running my local sim plus having an international sim for phone use while in USA and EU could be handy.

So what are peeps doing these days for cheap calls/text back to Oz, or local/international calls/text while you’re travelling OS?

Background. Since 2019 I’ve had the Optus $50 plan that included roaming data, unlimited calls & text when OS (to/from select countries) and calls/text from Oz to OS (35 countries). Alas, that plan has been phased out and apart from calls/text from Oz to OS - moving forward any calls/text (and data) are an additional fee for service (see #1 below). My current intention is to use the eSIM in my phone for roaming data and the Optus SIM will roam and receive txts...

Yes, most of the eSIM providers are mainly Data only but there are some Data/Call/Text bundles available for some countries (at extra cost). eSIMDB has advanced filters for searching for options.

If you’re mainly just after data, the I’d suggest find one that suits. You shouldn’t be charged by Telstra if you leave Telstra “Data Roaming” OFF while OS, nor make a call/send a Text. You ought to be able to receive Texts for free.

If you have to make/receive an urgent call, you should only pay $10 once (or for each day you do). Vodafone and Optus are slightly better at $5 per day.

Alternatively, if you do expect to make/receive calls, there are some local telcos that offer prepaid plans with roaming bundles.
