In what world could a chip in a windscreen cost EUR1700? It’s an ~AUD150 repair…at most.

Was it a windscreen made of unobtainium and the chip was actually a giant gouge necessitating complete replacement? And the car was a Ferrari?

They trade on your need to be gone, the lounge awaits and you have neither the time, nor the facility to argue.
I find the moment we drop off the car one of the most stressful travel activities; we have become
settled and secure in our wheels and suddenly we are out on the footpath.
Arguing about a stone chip or a cracked headlight or...?..they have me cold and they know it.

Luckily I didn't have to go down that route of saying WTF. The figure quoted was the standard excess, so yes an argument would have ensued, although at several continents removed.

I recently Replaced a bmw m3 windscreen with a genuine bmw item and it cost around AUD$2500 including seals etc.
But unless You were hiring something exotic there’s no Excuse for this price gauging.

Notably the uk and other countries have questionable levels of consumer protections.
