Last week whilst in SYD i hired a car from europcar and was told by the person at the counter in the airport that i wouldnt get points because of the velocity "discount"?

Is this right? Surely as i clicked through the Virgin website to Europcar, i do expect a *slightly* cheaper price but i also expect some points?

What have other experience been with this?

If this is the case i will quite happily go diect pay a bit more and get the points as these are more valauble to me. Also if price was an issue i would have gone with some other rental companies as there were cheaper. And i copped heaps from MrsGurio for wanting to choose europcar and the reason why i went through it was because of the points...

Unfortunately when it comes to Europcar, i've learnt not to be surprised by anything.

I use them myself because they have some of the cheapest rates going around, but their systems and their staff training leave alot to be desired.

I would give their Melbourne office a call, their HO staff are quite good, but alot of the airport staff seem to be no more highly trained than a Mcdonalds Burger maker.

I will stick to Hertz, on the QF rate with $50 off I am driving a Fairlane next week for $30 a day inc +++

Doesn't seem to be anything on their website to exclude it. The exclusions are as below, and i don't think the rate you had would have been one of those.

Booking a vehicle on the following Europcar car rental rates does not earn Velocity Points:
  • Wholesale/Voucher rentals;
  • Airline or staff rates;
  • Industry rates;
  • Insurance replacement rentals.

My father had worst treatment from Europ car imaginable. When his car was stolen in Eastern Europe they didn't want to know him!

Yes, he told them he was driving there and the car had all the correct insurance for the countries he was in etc etc.

I too have had wacky price differences here with Europ car.

Since Jan last year I have exclusively used Hertz all over the world and their service is best - eg if things go wrong or I have a query they help!

I am not saying they are the cheapest - they;re not but when you're stuck overseas and nobody speaks English I think they're the best to be with!

I've only ever used Hertz, Avis or Thrifty and I have never had an issue yet.

I used Europcar once last year and received Velocity points on the Virgin rate. I had no trouble at all with them!
