What do AFF's prefer?
The shorter leg first on SQ (8 hrs) then (13 hrs)
Or EY with first leg (13hrs) then (6 hrs)
I know my hours are not exact. I'm also thinking J or F.
Thoughts!!

Need to crunch the number:
EY on F: 203,000VA + $USD600 + tax
EY on J: 139,000VA + $USD410 + tax
SQ on F: 112,625KF + hefty tax
SQ on J: 80,750KF + hefty tax
SQ on J with VA: 139,000 + tax (much lower compare to what SQ charge)
AA on F: 162,500AA + tax (2 segment)
AA on J: 122,500AA + tax (2 segment)
Would I go with EY given the extra surcharges post devaluation? probably not but it is a good product. Clear winner for me would be SQ on J via VA redemption.
Missing anything?

The choice between the two carriers may more come down to how much extra you are prepared to pay, what timing options you have available to you and which equipment / classes of service you can get (assuming you are booking awards - if booking with cash, then you have more options).

Don't forget that EY offers a chauffeur service; SQ does not.

When you arrive in Europe, do you intend to hit the ground running or will the rest of the day you arrive essentially be a write off (or will you arrive in the evening)? If you need to hit the ground running when arriving in Europe early in the morning, there will be strategies on how to approach both your flight strategies (whether you arrive on Europe on the longer or shorter flight), but generally the longer flight will give you some extra "slack".

Hi anat01, to be more to the point, I do fly often with EY and always F and J getting there. Now they have upped the taxes I'm now eying off SQ, but the problem I have is that if going SQ I only get F for the short legs. I haven't looked at arrival times as yet and that would have some bearing on it to some degree.
Total less F time with SQ is 10 hrs + compared to EY. If only SQ had F from SIN-MXP or FCO.

So when it comes down to it, it's really less about the relative timing compared to a decision of carriers and products.

Don't forget with SQ, especially if you redeem in F where you can only do it through KrisFlyer, they will have their own taxes to pay in the form of YQ. (Booking SQ using Velocity points through the Velocity system will incur no YQ). I don't know if SQ KF's YQ charges are larger than the EY sector surcharge on VA, but that's just food for thought.

EY sector charges are now marginally higher that SQ. other points noted and thanks.

We avoid any short overnight flights to Euro with the overnight arrival in EY to DXB and early morning short leg a big no no. EY wins though for us when able to fly direct with their more destinations with the limo service great.
Similarly, never fly SQ on short overnight return flight back to SYD. Prefer SQ service (the males on EY are a waste of space) and SIN over DXB.
