Can only praise the QF flight from Sydney to Dallas and return to brisbane this month. We were lucky enough to be seated in premium economy without paying for the pleasure. Excellent seats, great for sleeping. In addition, the QF Club in Dallas was fantastic, very friendly and helpful staff who provided table service! Unheard of! I would enter USA via Dallas anytime on this direct flight.

Always good to get that upgrade.

I agree the PE seats are pretty good.......strange thing to say but on the one flight we did in PE, LAX-BNE I actually slept better compared to the sloping J on the way over. Not a big fan of the sloping J....like to avoid, if I can.

Have just booked a YASA redemption x 2 on QF7 in 3 months time & was able to secure Y+ seating. We didn't have enough points for J so whY cost us 48,000 points plus taxes which we were pretty happy with.

If you have 72,000 points for PE it's possible to get Skybeds or 96,000 for J you could get First seats but having status would help there.

I realise this could change tue to an aircraft swap but if it stays this way it is then that's a definite bonus!

I am doing this route in August as a group of 7 - I would love to get my parents upgraded from Y to Y+ as it is their 40th wedding ann (I have a bridesmaid and the bestman coming that they don't know about) - we are on two bookings - would it be helpful if I rang and mentioned this or not? I am doubtful it will make any difference.

By all means, ring, it can't hurt your chances.

However, if you've status with QFF, and your parents are on your booking, you may be able to select the Y+ seats online. The seatmap won't show them as PE seats, but with a bit of homework on seatguru, you can work it out. You can also just ring QF and see if they will assign a seat for you. Some agents are more willing than others, but again, do your homework first.

Love those Y+ seats for Y- price!

I always have a grin on my chin in Texas, so DFW has many happy vibrations for me. I hum happily through immigration, smiling at the traveller guides in their ten gallon hats.

Where's the QF club? This will be a bonus, as the various AA lounges there are pretty ordinary IMHO. Then again, I guess it isn't open all the time, so for a random transit of the hub I'll likely have to put up with the Vice Admirals of AA.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely come August this route would be operated by a 4 class aircraft. Most of the reconfigurations should be completed by then.

Posted on a wing & a prayer

Oh well. The A380 Y seats are pretty bloody comfortable, and if I've got to do long haul at the back of the bus, those are what I want.

sorry for being a bit OT, but with the A380 economy seats, I have read that the armrests don't go up completely. does this mean that if you were ever lucky enough to score three seats that you couldn't stretch out and have a sleep?

Looking at some seat reviews, it seems that this is correct. My A380 experience was in April 2010 LAX-SYD and I recall being able to get some actual sleep, which is a bit of a rarity for me in Y. From memory the mesh foot restraint came in very handy, as it moved when I did, while still providing support.

it's true the a380 style y/c armrests do not completely 'disappear' between the seats when lifted up...but (in my opinion..and having experienced it)) they still go up far enough to allow for a 'comfy as possible' 3 or 4 seat 'bed'.. and i'm a 5'10" 91kg male!.. with 3 or 4 seats you get 3 or 4 pillows/blankets... just takes some creative pillow/blanket placement..!!
