I was just wondering what happens to excess status credits. I'm a dj gold and since I can't earn anything else, what happens to the status credits that I earn above 50k.

Thanks

Nothing that i'm aware of. I've done 95k and 75k status credits in the last two qualifying years and didn't receive anything at all for going above gold. This year i will do at least 75k and probably 100k depending on a few things.

It's an area where i think DJ would do well to offer a few incentives. There's talk about introducing a higher level (Platinum i guess) or alternately such things as partner gold/Lounge membership, free lounge passes to give away, or perhaps upgrade vouchers wouldn't go astray for folks above 50k.

I agree, some extra incentives to continue flying past the annual qualification would be great... Upgrade vouchers or partner gold would be good enough for me - no need for an extra status level...

I was wondering the same thing. I will hit close to 170,000 before my renewal date. LTG would be nice.

Don't get me started!

Last year I finished with over 150k status credits. I did get a personal email from Phil Gunter, which was quite nice, but that's about it.

So far this year I've got nearly 90k and my renewal is in November. Hopefully they'll have something nice sorted for us before then. ;)

(Yes, a platinum level would be MUCH appreciated...)

It'd be nice if you could give some to me :D.

I think DJ also needs to think seriously about lifetime programmes.

Same position as a number of posters, 150K+ status credits per year for the past two years.
Would be nice for Velocity Rewards to introduce:
- Partner Gold feature at "double Gold" - That is, 100K status credits per year; and
- LTG feature at say 0.5 or 1M status credits (at current earning and status levels this would take the basic Gold member - 10-20 years to achieve).

I've been thinking about this.

One solution is to change SC to two concurrent programmes.

First being lifetime membership (perhaps LT silver for 200 000 SCs and LT gold for 500 000 SCs) for accumulative credit totals.

Second being a change to SCs to similar basis as FF points. Have them non-expiring but deductible for the status tier achieved each year.

So for me, where I might earn 25k SCs per year, 20k surrendered per annum for silver and the balance being "banked", so each 6 years or so, I get gold for a year as a "thankyou" benefit. It'd also mean those gold tier members could retire from their working career with perhaps a bank of maybe 300 000 SCs to allow them to retain gold for at least another 6 years of their less hectic "retired" life (and possibly more depending on retired life flying committment), also as a thankyou benefit.

It would have a benefit to DJ of attracting more brand loyalty from those red tier members who may only earn say 5k SCs a year, but after 4 years they'd be rewarded for their loyalty by gaining silver for a year. Young flyers could also start to build their bank of SCs and hence bring them into the DJ "family" from a very early age, promoting lifetime loyalty rather then "best on day" shopping.

.....brand loyalty achieved, new flyer recruitment achieved and member rewards achieved no matter the tier. I can't see this "cheapening" the product at all because the upgrades will be more akin to "taster" programmes and the flyer that only earns 5k SCs a year won't ever achieve a LT gold for example....that will still be reserved only for the big ticket flyers.
