I'm a Qantas Gold FF.

I'll be travelling to China on CX in April and within the USA on AA in July. Going to the USA from Sydney on Air Pacific in J - Cheap and get the status credits...

I have selected premium seats on all my CX, AA & FJ flights at no charge due to my sapphire status in Oneworld.

Yet if I want to travel in these seats with my own FF program airline, Qantas, I have to pay! Another example of the lack of benefits for QF FF's. I find now that I have more benefits on other airlines in Oneworld as long as I fly the required 4 QF numbered flights per year.

Anyone else doing the same?

Thanks

Presumably you are referring to Exit row seats on long haul flights.

Qantas introduced this a couple of years ago and since then I have never travlled in one. I did do so up until then as an WP.

Now, you indicate you are SG. In any case, SG were not generally able to pre-allocate exit row seats before Qantas introduced this charge.

This is true, except that back in those days I always found by getting to the airport early enough I was pretty much guaranteed an exit row. Now they charge $150 for the priviledge. Mind you, I'd still pay that for the extra comfort.

Once a flight segment was booked, a WP used to be able to call "Qantas Premium" and ask for a request be submitted to "Seating" for exit row pre-allocation. Such requests were normally granted within a few hours.

Slightly o/t question for you (but still to do with exit rows)...

A few years ago a rep at the QFF Call Centre advised me that once you hit WP, they are able to do a "physical assessment" (ie. you go somewhere and they look at you) and then put a permanent exit row allocation in your profile (for domestic of course, seeing you need to pay for international). Does this still exist? (I've just hit WP and if there is any way to do this it would be good, seeing as I'm 6'3").
