Hey guys,

Got a bit confused when choosing seats.

I assume being a silver member, i get to choose that for free? as i am not being asked to pay online, but all the fine print says, no refund of points or $$ if deemed unsuitable to sit there etc...

Also the bit about checking in at the counter and not online made me think.. umm ... are they going to make me pay? hehe :p

Even if you check-in at the airport and looking for an EROW on international services, you will still be charged.

The requirements are CASA requirements not QF's. So if you purchase a seat with the exit row and do no meet the requirements then you are no longer entitled to that seat.
*Be medically fit
*Be over 15 years of age
*Not travelling with other small children/family
*Be able to assist crew in the event of an emergency
And others...

I'm flying MEL-LHR return in Y+ on an A380 next month and have exit row seat 38F allocated on one of the legs.. does that mean I have to pay (I'm PS) when I check in my bags?

There is only an additonal cost for economy passengers travelling internationally, exit row or otherwise.

Y+, J & F PAX can select exit row seats at no charge.

Thanks, just got off the phone with them and that's what they told me, phew!

Looks like I now have MEL-SIN in 38F, SIN-LHR in 34D and LHR-SIN-MEL in 38J.

I flew MEL-LAX on the A380 in the exit row earlier this year. I booked through a Qantas travel agent, I joined QFF at the same time I booked the seats so I was a NB when I was paying for my PE seats. After I had paid for all my flights the travel agent had me choose my seats and the only window seat up for grabs was the exit row 38. I asked him if I could have that seat and he said yes. I was not charged any extra at the time.

When I went to the airport to check in I was asked by the check in agent if I was aware that I was in the exit row. I said yes and I explained that I usually fly DJ exit row and that this was my first International flight with QF and that my first domestic QF flight was taken less than a week before and I usually have (read pay for but I didn't tell her that) the exit row when flying Virgin.

Deep down inside I was expecting to pay for the exit row but after I explained my Virgin flight history the lady just went through a briefing about am I willing to help in an emergency etc etc. I said I was ready to help and she proceeded to check me into my exit row seat and I wasn't charged.

On my way home I flew SEA-LAX on Alaskan Airlines and then QF LAX-SYD-MEL (having changed to domestic) so I was checked in from SEA-SYD at the Alaskan counter and there was no mention of paying for the exit row and again I was in row 38 window seat.

I think that when I checked in heading out to the US the Qantas agent didn't charge me for the exit row in an attmept to pilfer me from Virgin and it worked. Generally flying QF I have had service ranging from very good-excellent so I haven't flown Virgin since.

ckck

I don't do jetlag.

Has this changed? I flew Y+ in Aug/Sept this year SG and when I went to select seats online it asked for payment for exit rows. Ignored it, selected exit rows and then it asked fr CC at end.

Dunno - I've been able to select exit row PE seating at no further cost. Not tried it since October.

I've got (as WP) PE flights next week and was able to select an exit row seat for not extra cost.

Similarly I (as SG) have booked discounted ff points Y+ASA return flights SYD-LAX and have been able to select exit row seats both ways for no additional cost - woohoo what a bargain!! Thanks AFF for the tip.

To add confusion to the mix - I just selected an exit row seat (23A) for a SYD-PER flight, and whilst it let me select it (and gave me the usual caveats re: check-in and eligibility etc...) it also said the following:
  • You must print the receipt provided and bring it with you when you check-in at the airport, as proof of purchase. A print out of the ‘Manage Your Booking’ page will not be accepted.
  • Your receipt will also be required if you need to apply for a refund.
  • Requested seats cannot be guaranteed.

What receipt? I'm guessing that's the normal page for when people pay for exit rows, but as I'm WP I don't have to pay? Confused..

Cheers,
- Febs.

Never have been asked for the reciept for a exit row booking domestically or otherwise, just go to the J service desk and check in.

Yeah that was my plan. Just seems a bit odd.
