If my father-in-law let qantas miles expire...is there any chance of getting them back? I know some airlines have opportunities where you can pay to reactivate them. Does Qantas do this?

Thanks.

Why would he/you not just use EDR to keep the account alive

I suspect you're out of luck here unfortunately. I've never heard of such a facility being available with Qantas. If there were special circumstances involved then it may be worth a call/letter, but otherwise probably no go.

Unless its within a few days and QF takes pit on him, I'd say they're gone forever.

Next time get him to use an edr card once every 2 years....

What is an EDR card? I will pass this info along to them. I think they didn't realize that the miles expired when not flying.
Thanks

Wait, is EDR his everyday rewards card? I know he has one of those. I think he normally uses it for fuel discounts. Do you have to sign up for either/or? Qantas FF or fuel points?

Thanks. I'm in the States so trying to go from what I remember from the last time I was in Oz.

http://www.everydayrewards.com.au - the Woolworths Loyalty card, which earns you 1 QF FF point per dollar spend over $30 at various Woolworths owned stores (not all though).

There are also frequent offers to boost points, as well as the ability to earn FF points when you use Woolworths Caltex fuel stations (or a 4c/Litre fuel discount if you prefer, but no points then).

*edit saw your last post*

Yup. You can link it to your QFF account online via the above webpage, but if the points are gone, it's going to be a fight to get them back off QF (if they even will).

Hmmm, but wouldn't his account have stayed active if he was using is EDR card? I know he uses it b/c the last time we went over there he was always handing us those receipts with the fuel discounts. Maybe he was only using the fuel points? I will have to ask him about this.

If the EDR was linked to his QFF it should have stayed active. Maybe it wasn't linked?

If he was handing you receipts with fuel discounts on them then the discounts weren't being loaded onto his card, so he probably wasn't using the card. When the EDR card is swiped, the fuel discount no longer appears on the receipt and instead is loaded onto the card for electronic use.

The card needs to be registered online, an account set up, and linked to his QFF card. Then anytime he shops at Woolworths, Big W or BWS and spends over $30 he'd get some points that would automagically transfer to QFF and his entire points balance would remain active for another 18 months.

If the points haven't expired yet, there's still time. Just find out his EDR number (the barcode on the back of the card) and register the card, link to his QFF account and tell him to make a spend (and get the card swiped) at a participating outlet over $30 ($31 would work).
