Without reading the fine print does anyone know if using an Amex Gold credit card for purchases if Amex offers extended warranty for all products, extended warranty for some products from some stores or no extended warranty at all.

I seem to recall reading, hearing, something along these lines but I am not sure if it was the Amex Gold credit card.

My distant memory indicates that a Gold Amex Credit Card has this type of warranty cover, although I can't find a PDS online to back it up.

If no-one can provide evidence, your best bet is to call up Amex, and have them send you the Insurance documentation. Should only take a day or so.

That was my thoughts exactly. When I purchased the digital camera earlier today I was offered 2 extended warranty for $29.95 but I had a suspicion Amex offered 1 year extended warranty.

What is the general consumer experience with these extended warranties?

I know as a supplier who supplies services to the extended warranty of DJs & Hardly Normal I know they are hard to deal with when we are trying to extract money and coverage from them.

What is the customer experience like when people claim warranty?

The Platinum Credit Card doesn't give extended warranty (so I would assume the Gold card doesn't either). It does insure all items for 90 days and have refund protection. The PDS is here. In the past I've used the Citibank Platinum in preference to the Amex for large items due to the extended warranty.

Hi all,
My first post - been watching and learning from you all for years. Thanks. At last an opportunity to offer something back. There IS such insurance. It's "Buyers Advantage" and I have the PDS dated August 2008 from the Gold Card insurance. I have just 'phoned and been informed this is the most current PDS and Buyer's Advantage still exists. Unfortunately the PDS is over 1MB so I cannot attach it, but here is a short relevant quote:
"Cover is provided under this part for the following benefits below, subject to the other terms, conditions and limitations set out in this document.
Cover is open to all Australian-enrolled American Express Gold Card members.
You will receive automatic cover for the breakdown or defect of Eligible Product(s) purchased by You using Your American Express Gold Card provided that the failure would be covered by the Original Warranty, from the time the Original Warranty for the product ends until the end of the Buyers Advantage period that applies (usually this is the same period of time as Your original warranty but it will not exceed a year)."
Happy to forward anyone who PM's me.:D

Hi sdhog2002, welcome to AFF.

What a good post.

Is that for Gold Charge card or Gold Credit Card holders?

AFAIK, Buyers Advantage is available on all the (personal) charge cards (even the green one).

Yes, you're quite right. Also, if you have a Platinum Amex Credit Card, Amex will provide a Gold Charge Card gratis to allow you to take advantage of the Charge Card benefits, eg. Buyer's Advantage. Of course, you won't earn MR at the Platinum rate if you charge it to the Gold, but extending warranty is, IMHO, quite valuable.
