How much extra baggage have you been able to check in as a WP?

My wife was on a FF international award tix and checked in 38kg (20kg allowance + 15 kg for WP status)

The check in person did not even question it... I wonder how much WP can get away with?

It's only 3kg above the allowance, and in my experience a few kilo's is not questioned on QF. I have never tested where there patience runs out though :)

I think they are liberal with people that have status...
As SG on a J ticket i checked in 46kgs earlier in the year.

Still you can't count on it all the time and be prepared if you are planning on a large amount, ie, be prepared to pay or loose some things.

If you know in advance maybe you could even ring up and get an ok for the expected weight, i know my significant other has had this before on whY tickets and no issues.

There are a few things to keep in mind with checked baggage allowances for high status FF members:
  • With Qantas and OneWorld, increased baggage allowance is not an alliance benefit, so is only available on your "home" airline if its a benefit of that program. So a QF Platinum FF member does not receive any additional baggage allowance when flying CX or AA etc.
  • The QF FF increased baggage allowance is only available when flying on a QF-operated and QF-coded flight. So not available on codeshares.
  • There is still a hard limit of 32kg per individual piece of baggage. This is due to occupational health and safety requirements for the baggage handlers.
  • Allowances differ depending on whether the piece or weight system applied to the itinerary. It travel is via North America or certain South American points (such as a RTW fare) then the piece system applies. The baggage allowance allowed by the fare type should be shown on the ticket (paper ticket or e-ticket receipt).
  • Camel suits and boogie boards are carried as checked baggage at your own risk.
