F/J Family booking options/combos

Hi all,
Family of 3 (2x adults and 1x 3yr old) with points to use over the next year or so.

Would love to fly first but seems virtually impossible re: availability of 3 x rewards seats.

What are the combinations of options here and people’s experience;
- 3 x business seats
- 2 x business seats and 1 x first seat (how do SQ view the adults swapping throughout the flight)
- 2 x first seats and infant booked economy (ideally someone else in economy looks after the kid (joking) - can 3 yr old be brought up to share one of the suites?! With adult in economy for takeoff / landing if needed)

Many thanks for any insights/thoughts/tips!
 
3 biz depends on routes but if booked early enough should be easy to get. Easier if you have status.

We haven't had issues swapping seats in the past. We usually travel in a group of 4-8 people in a mix of first and business. Intermingling as long as its not a rowdy crowd crammed into first was never an issue. They do want everyone back into assigned seats during takeoff and landing from experience. And have been told not to swap for mealtimes. Last family trip in a380 we booked out the entire 6 seats up the front and the 3 stragglers in biz were allowed to hang out with us the entire way

Well.. A 3 year old is not an infant. So he cant go in economy himself/herself. And they won't let the adult in economy come up front to "freeload" the experience. Short visits sure. And no where for an extra person to sit up front during takeoff and landing.. Certainly not a 3 year old "lap infant"
 
One thing I'm struggling with on this is, if we assume two adults and one child (like OP, I have a three year old), what's the best seating config in SQ J?

Do you pop the kid and a parent in the middle two seats (so the parent sat next to them can't reach them over the divider between the two seats)?

Or do you pop the kid in a window seat with the parents in the middle two seats of the same row, swapping places through the flight?

I expect it's something that once you've done it, you look back and it's not that bit a deal but right now the logistics are petrifying!

When MissM was younger what worked for us was MissM in the window seat with one adult behind her and the other on the aisle next to her, that way we were all on the same side of the aircraft.

Just flew SQ J last week with a 3YO and 8YO so faced a similar conundrum. Wrote up some thoughts in my TR: 2 months, 2 kids, 2 continents (technically)

Tried slightly different options for the two A350 configs we flew, but I think keeping everyone on one side of the middle divider is probably the best option really, in terms of both parents being able to assist the child.
 
When MissM was younger what worked for us was MissM in the window seat with one adult behind her and the other on the aisle next to her, that way we were all on the same side of the aircraft.
We're doing a similar config when we fly F with our 3yo. Hoping shes too distracted by the IFE to notice that she's on her own for takeoff.

Would an adult be able to reach a hand over or step over the middle divider in either config? Feel nervous about the idea of a 3 year old in their own window seat for take-off, but I guess a moot point if they can't be reached when the seatbelt light is on anyway.

A350 regional the middle seats alternate which side the table is on (“love seats” vs “divorce seats” as I’ve seen them referred to). You can tell which is which from the seat map. On the “love seat” ones (eg row 19) you could probably reach over the divider even with the belt on. I didn’t try stepping over but you probably could.

The best photo I have of the divider (that’s as low as it goes):

A350 longhaul would be much harder to reach over as the divider is much bigger and the actual sitting parts of the middle seats are a bit further apart. I don’t think you’d be able to step over this one:

Thanks hugely helpful. On the A350 regional the pair of seats looks like the way to go regarding helping my child with meals etc. We have row 19 booked too.
