Hi all, we have a predicament, flying BNE-AUH-FCO
On points. The wife loves F and is happy to do Y on the second leg. Me however would much rather prefer J all the way. The same principal applies for he return flights. What say you!!

Have you considered the aircraft and flight times?
If it is an EY A380 I would go for first for the 15 hours SYD-AUH.
Nothing beats the First Apartments.
AUH-FCO will be an A330 I think or at most a B777.
It's only 6 hours and I could put up with economy for that.
Your Virgin Platinum status will get you into the newly reopened F lounge in Abu Dhabi anyway which should compensate.

Hmmmmm. Love the Interesting comments. We are on the 789 Dreamliner just to help the conversation. M

F & Y. Second leg is only 6 hours and likely you will have eaten well and slept well already.

But is there lounge access arriving F and departing Y when flying EY? Otherwise you're arriving in the lap of luxury and then stuck in the terminal for however many hours waiting for the connection.

Might depend on the length of layover but again - unlikely that need to eat or drink more, can shower on board and a bit of terminal wandering is probably in order after 15 hours on a plane.

Unfortunately there won't be F lounge on the trip over, however there will be on the return trip. And for what it worth the layover both ways is 2 hours in AUH.

If my husband picked F & Y over J & J, there would be tears. Ugly, sobbing, tears

I would actually go with F & Y, mainly because the BNE-AUH leg is much longer than AUH-FCO. And F on Etihad is supposed to be very, very good! Also, I presume the AUH-FCO leg would be a daytime flight?

I would go J and J. J beds are fine for sleeping.
