Family of 6 RTW trip - which FF programme to join?

Hi,

We have booked a RTW trip in Jan05 for our family of 2 adults and 4 children. We would like to accumulate enough FF pts to fly to SYD - NZ return for another family holiday in July06.
We are flying on Star Alliance. Should we credit our miles to Airpoints, Krisflyer, Miles & More or Mileage Plus? We will be flying in economy H class.
I have read on this forum that Mileage Plus require less pts for redemption and checking on their website seems to confirm this. However, I am concerned that they may not be around in a couple of years when we want to use the pts. What about AirNZ, are they in a strong position to still be around? We originally were going to just credit the pts to our Krisflyer accounts but after reading this webste, wonder whether their are better options.

Sydney, that's the conundrum your face with any FF program - it's only as good as the airline. None of us had crystal balls when Ansett went under, for example.

United are extremely generous when crediting points to their program - whilst I'm not an expert on the *A carrier FF programs, I understand they give 100% of any Economy fare purchased on any of the *A carriers. Krisflyer certainly doesn't....that's the reason I switched (hoping it will remain that way!)

United also, I agree, appear to have better (read lesser) redemption point requirements - thus you may benefit more.

i'm just wondering if there are any other fflyer programs that let you pool miles

Skywards, the program for Emirates & SriLankan (with partners such as SQ & UA) has a family pooling option. But, it credit only 25% of the family members' points in to the main member's account. the balance 75% just evaporates. So it is not effective.
Does Asiana give 100% of points?

I checked out the Asiana Club online and it doesn't say anything else except what has been posted about whether you get 100% of pts or only a percentage.
Anyway, we don't really need to pool the miles together as we'll have enough for NZ.

Is it true with United that it's only 20000pts for Syd to NZ return? It's hard to tell because the Star Alliance chart on their site says Australia to Australia is 20000pts(NZ isn't mentioned) - but then in another place it groups Australia with NZ.

I checked with Krisflyer and class economy H gets 1pt per mile which suits us fine. It also means that we will become silver members after this trip.

Airpoints require 100 status credits which we won't have done with this trip. We'll only have done around 90.

Mileage Plus also only require 25000 miles to reach premier status. So that combined with low reward pts requirements makes it a real "plus".

When I checked last about 6 months ago, SYD-AKL was 20K when using Milage Plus to fly Air NZ. But give a call to United to confirm.

According to the United Award Chart, Aust/NZ to Aust/NZ is 20K.
