Hi All,

Just qualified WP1 after racking up 4065 SC since April this year. It has be well documented that most members think the so called benefits are very disappointing given the number of additional SC required to qualify compared to WP.

So what benefits package to the members believe should accompany WP1 status. I think there are several options that woud be valued to WP1 member and come at minimal or marginal cost to Qantas.

So I'll kick this off:

1. Additional percentage increase in SC such 25% loading
2. Allowing more than one guest into the first lounge
3. Metal card such as Amex Centurion
4. Allowing spa bookings (they could still do this after offering the service to CL or F customers)
5. Complementary valet parking
6. Free simulator experience
7. Exclusive event program such as offered by Amex to Platinum Charge and Centurion
8. Special sale event for items in FF store

I am sure the members of the forum can come up with a few more.

Red Roo - any comments on the overwhelming disappointment with the current offer?

IMHO only points 2, 4 and 7 have any chance of being adopted. Some of the other suggestions have a significant cost to QF (when compared to current retail pricing).

There are too many problems (according to QFF) with going down this road.

The easiest solution would be to kill off platinum1 entirely and make it a hidden 3rd tier with some nominal benefits (ie: 100K points, flight sim etc..), and then make CL attainable at 7,500 QF SC.
That way you'll get Platinums who bring up the "I want more than standard WP's shut up until they know they're worth something decent - 7500SC). It also then puts a benchmark on what CL is worth to those who have it for `free`, so they can see what they'll lose if they ever stop spending/lose office/whatever.

and if you're doing 7500 QF SC - you damn well better be looked after on every occasion! You can't get there flying Y.

Problems solved!

I could attain that in Y flying every weekend for a year under DSC (or both days every weekend not under DSC), just in QLD, but I'd better get CL! :p

You can.. it's an average of 20.5 SCs per day! :o

Just do MEL-SYD daily in discount Y with a full Y thrown in every now and then and after a year, 7500 SCs will be yours!

I'm not P1 and probably never will be. But it seems like the benefits currently on offer for P1 have fallen far short of the mark.

When P1 was first announced Alan Joyce described it like this:

I keep telling people I want this to be like the treatment Ryan Bingham got in that movie Up in the Air.

From all accounts QF's version of the Bingham treatment is a little lacklustre.

Upgrade vouchers would be a good idea. Maybe a choice of 4 Dom or 2 Int? I'll never reach WP1 btw.

I don't see where the disappointment - WP1 was always marketed as a slight level above.
The main benefits, as reported from a few members here, is when you really need it, ie. a service above when things start going pearshaped with connections etc.

To comment on your specifics ::
1. Additional percentage increase in SC such 25% loading - Why - you already earn enough, and most WP1 have no problems making LTG
2. Allowing more than one guest into the first lounge - Again normally not an issue as presumably mostly business... Maybe a few guest cards for family holidays
3. Metal card such as Amex Centurion - Not a bad idea, and a nice cheap way of creating the exclusivity
4. Allowing spa bookings (they could still do this after offering the service to CL or F customers) - probably reasonable, but then WPs would likely have no chance
5. Complementary valet parking - Comp Valet coming with J/F fares, should you get Valet parking for a 20day trip??
6. Free simulator experience - pay for it using the 000s of FF points you have
7. Exclusive event program such as offered by Amex to Platinum Charge and Centurion - In two years as Plat Charge I have yet to see a decent event
8. Special sale event for items in FF store - Again you should have no shortage of FF points to spend

Yet Qantas says:

Platinum One members are rewarded with the ultimate level of personalised service and receive additional benefits beyond those offered to other Frequent Flyers.

Personally I think the marketing department don't really understand what Platinum One is all about. After a somewhat confused start I have been very pleased with P1. The problem is that it is the unpublished benefits that have made the difference for me.

Yep I agree TH

From reading other P1's experience i think the biggest bonus has been the unpublished benefits.

As a WP I have had some good unpublished benefits on some flights.

One day I was given a J meal and the FA told me that if anyone says anything just say you have a food allergy.

Why would you want to fly every weekend around Queensland?

And just because you can is not really a good reason.
