Hopefully I won't get flamed too hard on this #firstworldproblem but I just flew the first leg of my FASA to LHR from Mel and the scs have posted as if I took a direct flight ie 360 instead of 420 via Hong Kong, I'm guessing the same will occur on my return through SIN, just means I miss out on around 120scs for the trip

Can't really ask for original routing credit etc as I booked MEL -LHR but I'm sure if it had been a paid flight scs would have been the 420 range each way and not the 360 I received

Any thoughts? Or should I just have another glass of the 99 taittenger and forget about it :)

If you booked Mel - lhr then that is what you will get for status credits. Best is often to go via sin and change flights there.

Keep drinking ;)

Because the flight was MEL-LHR without a flight number change QF will treat the entire flight as if you flew directly from MEL-LHR without stopping.
Putting in a proper stopover or flying via SIN will make it treat the flight as two flights earning SC's from MEL-SIN and again SIN-LHR.

Perhaps I'm having a blonde moment  Did you fly on 2 separate flight numbers MEL-HKG, and HKG-LHR ?

No not a blonde moment, it was QF29 all the way, I don't think I'd experienced having stopped over somewhere and it not recognised in the QF system, anyway thanks everyone will know for next time!

or flying via SIN will make it treat the flight as two flights earning SC's from MEL-SIN and again SIN-LHR.

only if you have 2 flights numbers or a stopover. Same flight number even via SIN with credit as MEL-LHR.

Well another glass of champagne will help you navigate thru the rule book. In fact it may make you feel positively brilliant. Just as upgrading a JASA on points still only earns J everything even though you used a seat in First.

My travel agent never understands why I do that swapping of plane in SIN or BKK but for me it makes complete sense after having had the same issue as the OP :D

only if you have 2 flights numbers or a stopover. Same flight number even via SIN with credit as MEL-LHR.

Sorry, your right, MEL - LHR via SIN provided it's not all on QF10 or without a stopover... (I forgot about QF10)

I did miss booking the same flight on 2 bookings, that can avoid the 24 hr stopover, what I did last time.

Things may have changed over the years, but previously it didn't have to even be in 2 bookings - as long as it was booked as 2 distinct segments (and priced that way), even within the same PNR, it would credit separately regardless of flight number (i.e. at the time, the process obviously worked off PNR segment differences, not flight numbers).

Found this out when we has a TA physically split a BNE-FRA into BNE-SIN and SIN-FRA (can't remember the flight number). This was one of the change planes but not flight number scenarios. BNE-SIN was 2 class, SIN-FRA was 3 (this was prior to the PE introduction, so quite a while ago - and also prior to the upgrade lottery introduction). a BNE-FRA booked in J could not be upgraded to F, as it was not offered on the BNE-SIN sector. Updgrades were available on the SIN-FRA. In order to access them, the TA had to split and get the ticket reissued (no change to fare, or if there was, the TA was anxious to please, as they had stuffed up a quote and were going to eat quite a loss unless I was nice and paid extra for something they had included in the written quote, but forgotten to cost).

Both sectors, about 2 hr transit, same flight number creditted separately as 2 flights, with the appropriate SC.
