Hey Guys,

Thought I'd introduce myself here :)

Over the past year I've been churning through a few credit cards with my business so we can use them for our honeymoon in December.

Since we're overseas for our wedding we end up in Dubai where my fiance's family lives.

At the time it sounded like a logical solution since Dubai is one of the busiest airports in the world and a lot closer to the rest of the world than Australia.

Since we've collected a majority of our points through Qantas I thought it would be quite simple to just use their partner airlines to connect from Dubai to Italy (where we want to go).

The issue is we're paying roughly $1400 in fees and taxes for a return trip from Dubai to Rome with just two people.

I looked online and it's actually cheaper to just pay cash for the tickets.

My question is has anyone used their Qantas frequent flyer points out of Dubai without paying exorbitant fees?

Cheers

Welcome aboard Under Travelled - QF taxes on reward flights are exorbitant almost everywhere - HKG isn't so bad

Yeah that's what I'm confused about UAE you would think has some of the lowest taxes in the world even with their VAT
