ff points family members?

if i buy my little sister (same surname) a qantas fare to travel with me can I get the ff points?

No - you only get points for the flights that you take.

However, they could earn points on QFF and transfer them to you.

Some people will suggest that for purely domestic itineraries you could book the flights under your name and she could fly as you. There are few if any ID checks on domestic Itins - especially if you have no luggage and use online check in. That would be unethical and possibly fraudulent.

Not directly.


However the QFF allows family transfers of points once per year.


For example I pay for my family of 5 and then pool all the points in my account later by transferring them for award redemptions.

No, points are credited to the frequent flyer account of the person who is actually flying. The only way to do it is to transfer them from her QFF account to your QFF account after the points have beend credited to her account.

I don't go through or to SYD all that often but last week i did and got id'd. I asked the check in lady if this was normal as out of the flights i've had this year i have never been id'd. She said that because it was SYD they had to id everyone. So i think it depends on where you going to i guess. MEL has never checked recently too.

I was asked for ID on a PER-BNE trip last month.

I see the id'ing of pax as a good thing personally - although how it works if you are not doing a bag drop and doing OLCI I don't know. I have no issue with QF doing revenue protection like this.

I agree entirely... Don't get me wrong i wasn't saying it from that point of view, in fact much the opposite... In this day of terrorism etc it is surprising to say the least...

How is it revenue protection? The seat is paid for whoever takes it.

Two things - people buy heavily discounted tickets and then "trade" with people. This ensures the conditions of the ticket have been met. Secondly it protects FF revenue if people are paying for flights and earning FF points and not flying them but getting other people to.
