Hi All,

Sorry if this has been discussed before - I did look but could not find anything.

Could someone please explain the Taxes for Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

1. A Business Class flight in July 2011 from Brisbane to LAX (direct) using QFF Classic Award points = Taxes of $194.89
2. I recently booked another Business Class flight for October 2012 BNE to LAX (via SYD) using QFF Classic Award points = $486.34

I understand a fair portion of this is a fuel surcharge but I did not think fuel had increased by that amount in 14 months.

Cheers.

Oh you had to ask. I'm waiting for the carbon tax comment, quickly followed by the PM is a liar.

But will anyone ask why you're getting classic award and not any seat awards?

A serious answer Qantas has increased there charges. No doubt some one will chime in with where and how much.

Taxes and surcharges have gone up and you've added a connection as well.

Is it too much to ask that that when these charges are presented at booking, there is a breakdown available to view. Understanding that taxes are simply passed onto 3rd parties, but fees and charges are retained by the airline, and are effectively just part of the seat cost - which arguably the FF points are for.

Another flight for April 2013 FF points LAX to BNE (Direct) = Taxes $386.98.

Do you know what has increase in the way of Taxes? Is it fuel?

I dobt it - Qantas obviously don't want people to know the actual fare class inventory code they a booking into, let alone a break down of the taxes, levies, surcharges and fuel fines.

Using two existing booking I have, one made last year and another this year for the same routing, I get the following:

Last year
(MEL-xSYD-LAX)
Code:
 YQ 260.00 AUD
 QR 3.46 AUD
 WY 25.58 AUD
 AU 47.00 AUD

 US 16.80 AUD
 XA 5.00 AUD
 XY 7.10 AUD

Tot: 408.37 AUD
This year
