Virgin Australia Crew Incident in Fiji

Appears to have happened after a flight that arrived yesterday, and only being reported today, which makes me think something likely happened at a new year celebration last night. Family member being flown suggests non-minor injury or some form of sexual assault. Both would likely necessitate police involvement though.
Rape perhaps?

Very strange - crew being restricted to their hotel suggest some form of illicit activity, but then family members being flown over suggests some crew members in distress?

Tbh the way Channel 7 reported on it was not exactly an example of good journalism. “Breaking News - serious indecent with VA flight crew in Fiji - however we have no details on what exactly went on except it’s pretty serious!”

That kind of “reporting” only leads to speculation on forums like this. If they know crew have been confined to hotel rooms and family members are being flown to Fiji then they must know something about the underlying cause if not the specific details.

But also must have been something away from the aircraft, or after passengers disembarked, otherwise we’d have had first-hand reports?

They’ve only said after landing in Fiji. Do VA crew do the flight as a return trip or as an overnight? Did it happen at a layover hotel last night?

Do Airlines have policies in place in terms of what one can and cannot do while on a layover? I’d imagine if I went clubbing on a work layover I’d be in all sorts of strife.

So now some more information has come out.

Let’s assume that they were responsible crew. They’re allowed out in any layover city - they know the drill about drugs and alcohol and the time limits as to sleep and signing on with nothing in their systems.

There’s no report about when they left the Nadi nightclub and their condition - also no report about perpetrators of the alleged theft/rape (where they Fijian locals or foreigners). Doesn’t say where they were when it happened.

VA Comms would have been been busy - advising family, getting them seats on flights over and Crewing getting replacements (likely reserve crew).

Hope that they’re okay - cash/items stolen can be replaced through insurance but the mental side is difficult. I hope they get the right support from VA Management.

Clubbing? I wouldn’t accept that at this stage of things, especially from the media.

Only as some TV media have shown the apparent nightclub.

Media sometimes uses the term ‘clubbing’ to imply sleaziness, which is rather unfortunate. But, hey, that’s just how I see it. We don’t all see things the same way.

Yes they try to sensationalise any matter these days. They often use capitals letters for breaking news and the colour red get used a bit. It’s all about ramping it up these days to get clicks to get revenue, with declining profits in the media, the behaviour in reporting will only get worse.
