I know this is old news but for those that have not yet heard.

There will soon be a choice of 2 OneWorld carriers to KUL. Time to start planning those status runs!

Finnair flights thrice a week to Kuala Lumpur through Bangkok.

Finnair announced on Wednesday its plans to meet strong growth in airline travel in Asia by starting a new flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The airline had purchased nine Airbus A350 jets last month. With a view to cashing in on strong demand from Asia, the airline said it will start at least one destination in Asian a year and also to increase the frequency of flights.

Finnair is opening yet another destination in Asia when flights from Helsinki to Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur begin in May 2007. The route will be operated three times a week via Bangkok.

"As a thriving business city and breathtaking leisure destination, Kuala Lumpur naturally complements our Asian strategy. Demand for Asian destinations is growing in both both directions and we have excellent connections from all over Europe. It is our goal to open one to two new Asian connections each year and add frequencies to our current network,” said Finnair SVP Commercial Division Mika Perho.

Although this does give another option - and KUL is one of my regular Asia destinations - I think I will still be using CX since they have more regular flights via HKG giving me more confidence that I will not be seriously delayed if an aircraft becomes unsurvivable or is delayed for an extended period.

And since I am normally using DONE4 type tickets, my preference is to route SWP-Europe-NA-Asia-SWP, so that does not easily lend itself to the AY flights. But if wanting to avoid London when going from New York to KUL, the AY option may be attractive.

I thought all people on board would be rather seriously delayed if the a/c is unsurvivable?

indeed that was one of my best typos that was then modified by the spell checker that I didn't check! Wonderful :p :p .

Of course I was going to type US but thought that might confuse people with the LOTFAP, so decided to type it in full - oh well at least it was a funny one this time!
