Tomorrow Skywest, on behalf of Virgin Australia is doing 'Proving Flights' for their new ATR72 aircraft.

The flights depart from the Brisbane Domestic terminal (Lounge access preflight!!) at 1pm and returns around 9pm.

Those who attended the ATR Safety Evac test earlier on in the year were invited to take part in these flights.

A number of AFF members put their name down to go, I will be taking part in the flights tomorrow.

Who else from AFF is attending? We will have the obligatory pre-flight meet up in the lounge from 1200 onwards. If anybody else is around, they are more than welcome to join us in the lounge.

My understanding is that these flights are a dry run, in terms of onboard service. AFAIK the flights will be catered.

I'll be posting updates through the day tomorrow on this thread.

12am???? You're mighty keen!

BTW - by "dry run", do you mean they won't be taking alcohol onboard for service?

That's what happens when I don't use 24hr time!!

I'm sure samh004 will report on the status of the bar tomorrow.

Can't wait. Going to be a fun day :). Wonder where we will be diverted to? Hope it's somewhere interesting.

Btw, we are supposed to meet at the checkin at 12, so the lounge will need to be earlier.

And I hope they have booze. 8 hours on a dry flight ain't fun.

Oh? I thought once we checked in (which closes at 12) we are free to do whatever we want, until the flight departs. Which is at 1pm.

Have I read the email wrong? The earliest I can get there is 11:30

All I know is that it says to be there at 12 sharp. I figured we'd be "under their control" from that point on. But I could be wrong.

I think you will find they did some flights on Saturday as well, one arrived mid evening from GLT complete with pax and was displayed on the arrivals board.

I will be there. Looking forward to it. By the email, I assumed 12-1 was lounge time too, we meet at 12, then will need to go through security etc, a beer at the lounge and go. Maybe wrong, I guess all will be revealed tomorrow.

Well it sounds like you are all in for a tough trip tomorrow, enjoy ;).

Now if they would do a OOL to BNE flight, that would fit in nicely.

What a day ... Too tired for a proper trip report now. If the wrong person had gone on those flights they'd never fly again. Whereas I found it interesting to see how the crew reacted to various inflight emergencies.

Highlight of the night was when we suffered an explosive decompression and after our simulated emergency descent the CASA rep declared I'd been sucked out of the plane.... Which was unfortunate because when the subsequent call went out for any passengers with first aid training I was the only one to put up my hand (although I was rapidly plummeting to the ground at that point!)

And did you really expect anyone to own up to having first aid knowledge?? What were they going to do? Toss them out after you to give a bit of mouth to mouth on the way down, or perhaps administer the Heimlich maneuver to remove that Pure Blond that lodged in your throat on the way out??

Sounds like an interesting experience to witness the "other" side of flying! F&B served? After all, they are a fully catered flight aren't they?
