HI All,

A few months back when i was SG, i was flying J to LAX, and noticed about 7 people in the cabin have the customer service manager specifically hand out First Class Amenity Packs to them. This also occured on the way back with about 3 people.

At the time i thought maybe its Platinums who got it. However i have since become WP and have done BKK, HKG and SIN a few times in Premium Economy and Business and havent had this happened to me. Does anyone know about this? maybe its CL?

They probably were WP, service above the norm does happen but should not be expected on every flight.

CSM was handing out newspapers and taking drinks requests from WP's in Y on the red eye last night, PER-SYD.

I have seen this too. My flight MEL-HKG last year, packed flight and several people on the upper deck were given the Payot kits. No idea what status they had.

Yep, WP or SG (depending on CSM). Really they should be a little more discreet than this... If they are doing something out of the ordinary they need to be more discreet (eg giving me champagne from J or F in Y, they tend to put it in a plastic cup / hide something special under a newspaper / request I walk to the galley)

While I certainly respect the preference of some to not have the special CSM greeting when in Y, I like it, mainly because it gives me an opportunity to politely request a J amenity kit for my Mother. On one occasion, flying SIN-PER, after an hour or two into the flight there had been no welcome from the CSM so I pressed the call button and told the FA who attended that I must have been asleep when the CSM did the walk-through and asked if she could drop by now. I got a J amenity kit and when I politely asked if I could change it for a female kit for my Mother, she gave me both. (Note, this works particularly well on female FAs!)

I can certainly see the point of being discrete but it could equally be argued that while being slightly more obvious about it, without going over the top, adds an aura of aspiration (for lack of a better word) to those who see it happening. 'Hmmmm, Qantas really does look after their top customers. What a nice airline it must be!' Pie in the sky, perhaps.

we have a fairly good idea of the offerings WPs (and perhaps SGs) receive in business or economy. how about first class or premium economy? any stories?

in J I have never gotten special welcome from the CSM as a WP, I checked with SWMBO as well and nothing there either when in J. In Y I had the CSM drop by with some express passes but nothing else. In prem Y same thing just some express cards and that is it.

In F the CSM does the rounds with all passengers, having a general chit-chat and asking if there are any special requirements for the flight as they do for WPs in other classes. Often mid-flight the the Captain and/or First Officer will come around and do the same, usually happy to chat a little longer with passengers who want to talk aircraft / flying in general.

I've flown F a number of times with family members who have various levels of status, from SG right down to 'not even a QFF member' and the treatment seems the same on board the aircraft regardless of status. I have noticed that on some flights the CSM will make reference to other bookings in my profile so they obviously do read through their passenger manifests carefully.

After landing you do see the CLs being met by their ground hosts but there's no special treatment for WP or SG passengers above that offered to anyone in F.

thanks : ) I was more wondering if anyone received any gifts (similar to giving something to J/Y class)
